  • Top Tier™ Detergent Gasoline: A significant highlight is that Sunoco offers TOP TIER™ Detergent Gasoline. However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by customer reviews, which present important caveats for potential visitors:

  • Concerns about Slow Pumps and Fuel Shorting: One customer explicitly states, "Gas pumps are slow 🐌, which means they are shorting you by a gallon or more depending on your fill-up... keep your receipts and file a complaint with the state attorney general." This is a very serious accusation that, if true, could significantly impact the value and trust customers place in the station. It suggests potential issues with pump calibration or functionality.
  • Operational Reliability Issues: Another review notes, "There have been times when the station is not operational, which can be quite a setback if you’re running low on gas." This indicates inconsistent service availability, which is a major inconvenience for a utility like a gas station.
  • Safety and Loitering Concerns: The same review mentions, "Additionally, the presence of people loitering around the premises, sometimes asking for money, can make the atmosphere feel less than welcoming. It’s a reminder to be aware of your surroundings and to prioritize safety when stopping by, especially during less busy hours." This feedback highlights a significant concern regarding personal safety and the overall environment around the station, which can deter customers from visiting, particularly during off-peak hours.

These highlighted concerns suggest that while the station offers essential services, the customer experience can be inconsistent and may pose safety considerations, which are vital for Philadelphia residents to be aware of.

For residents of Philadelphia, particularly those in the bustling West Philadelphia area, the Sunoco Gas Station at 4601 Walnut St presents itself as a suitable option for essential fueling needs, though with important considerations for local users. Its suitability is a balance between its core offerings and specific customer feedback.

On the positive side, its convenient location on Walnut Street is a significant advantage in an urban environment. Easy access to a gas station for quick fill-ups is crucial for daily commuters and those navigating the city's thoroughfares. The station offers Sunoco's TOP TIER™ Detergent Gasoline, which is a noteworthy benefit for vehicle health and performance, helping to keep engines cleaner and potentially improving fuel efficiency. The availability of both diesel and 94 octane fuel also broadens its utility for a diverse range of vehicles.

However, it's crucial for Philadelphia locals to be aware of the notable concerns raised in customer reviews. Issues such as "slow pumps" potentially "shorting you by a gallon or more" and reports of the station being "not operational" at times can significantly impact the reliability and trust in the service. More critically, the presence of "people loitering around the premises, sometimes asking for money," which can make the "atmosphere feel less than welcoming," raises valid safety concerns. These factors mean that while the station offers the fundamental services, the overall customer experience may require heightened awareness and patience.

In conclusion, the Sunoco at 4601 Walnut St is suitable for locals who prioritize its convenient location and the benefits of Top Tier fuel and the rewards program. However, patrons should proceed with awareness of the reported issues regarding pump speed, occasional operational inconsistencies, and the external environment. For those seeking a quick and accessible fuel stop in West Philadelphia, it serves its primary purpose, but an informed approach to their visit is advisable.

Visiting this Sunoco gas station can be a bit of a mixed bag. While it provides the essential service of refueling your car, the experience may not always be as smooth as one would hope. There have been times when the station is not operational, which can be quite a setback if you’re running low on gas. Additionally, the presence of people loitering around the premises, sometimes asking for money, can make the atmosphere feel less than welcoming. It’s a reminder to be aware of your surroundings and to prioritize safety when stopping by, especially during less busy hours.

Just had the same scam happen as everyone is talking about. Thugs at the pump, one takes it from my hand wrestling it away from me,never put it back and ran my card up. Have to go to PD now

This station frequently has the cheapest gas prices but lots of scams. Young men or teenagers loiter and will either try to pump your gas or will move the handle after you put it back so that your credit card is left open and they will fill other peoples’ cars with your tab. I just witnessed this pump switching scam this afternoon.

There’s a scam going on here with men hovering near the pumps. I told one of them “no thanks.” when he approached me. When i was done filling up my tank he physically tried to TAKE the pump handle from me, and I had to push his hand away. I FIRMLY hung up the gas pump handle so he couldn’t freely use the gas on other cars after I left and run up my credit card. Be warned of this fraud/scam happening here. I am a 5 ft 110lb disabled woman and do not feel comfortable being preyed on by the men hovering at this gas station.
