This article will delve into a comprehensive overview of the Sunoco station in Sackets Harbor. Our goal is to provide a balanced and factual perspective to help local New York users make informed decisions when considering this stop for their fueling and convenience needs, acknowledging both its positive aspects and areas where caution might be warranted.

Location and Accessibility

The Sunoco station is strategically located at 13821 State Rte 3, Sackets Harbor, NY 13685, USA. This address places it directly on New York State Route 3, a significant highway that connects various communities across upstate New York. For residents of Sackets Harbor and surrounding areas, this location offers prime accessibility, making it a convenient stop for daily commutes, errands, or recreational trips.

State Route 3 is a crucial artery in this part of New York, providing direct access for those traveling to or from larger hubs like Watertown, or for individuals heading towards the scenic 1000 Islands region. Its position on a main thoroughfare means easy entry and exit for vehicles of all sizes, including those towing boats or RVs, which is particularly relevant given the area's popularity for water-based activities.

The accessibility of this Sunoco is a key advantage for local New York users. Whether you're heading out for a day on the water, returning home, or simply need to refuel and grab a bite, the station's prominent location on Route 3 ensures it's a straightforward and minimal detour. Services Offered

The Sunoco station at 13821 State Rte 3 in Sackets Harbor, NY, provides a range of services designed to meet both vehicular and personal needs for those in the New York area. These include:

  • Fueling Options: The station offers various grades of gasoline, including Rec-90 fuel, which is a non-ethanol recreational fuel often preferred for boats and other small engines. The availability of specialized fuels like Rec-90 is a key service for boaters and those with specific engine requirements in the region. However, a significant customer review raised concerns about water contamination in the Rec-90 fuel, leading to engine issues.

  • Convenience Store: The on-site store carries "all the must have items" typically found in a gas station convenience store. This generally includes:

    • Beverages: A selection of sodas, bottled water, energy drinks, and other refreshments.

    • Snacks: A variety of chips, candy, and other quick-grab food items.

    • Basic Necessities: Other essential items that travelers or locals might need in a pinch.

  • Subway On-Site: A major convenience for customers is the presence of a Subway restaurant within the station. This provides a fresh food option with seating, allowing customers to grab a made-to-order sandwich or salad for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

  • Clean Restrooms: One customer review specifically highlighted that the "bathroom is clean," which is a crucial amenity for any gas station, especially for those on longer journeys or with families.

While the combination of fuel, convenience store items, and a Subway provides a comprehensive stop, the reported issue with fuel quality, particularly for Rec-90, is a serious concern that potential users, especially boaters, should be aware of. The general store amenities and clean restrooms, however, remain positive aspects of the service offering.

Features / Highlights

The Sunoco station at 13821 State Rte 3 in Sackets Harbor, NY, offers several features that stand out to customers, alongside a significant concern that has been raised:

  • On-Site Subway Restaurant: A major highlight is the integrated Subway restaurant with seating. This provides a convenient and popular food option, allowing customers to grab a fresh meal without leaving the premises. This is a significant advantage over gas stations that offer only pre-packaged food.

  • Clean Restroom Facilities: The station is noted for having a "clean bathroom," which is a fundamental but highly appreciated feature for any public stop. Clean facilities contribute significantly to a positive customer experience.

  • Availability of Essential Items: The convenience store is recognized for having "all the must have items." This means that customers can rely on finding a good selection of standard gas station convenience goods, from snacks and drinks to other quick necessities.

  • Specialized Fuel (Rec-90): The availability of Rec-90 (non-ethanol) fuel is a key feature, especially in a region popular with boaters. This specialized fuel is crucial for many marine engines and older vehicles, making the station a potential go-to for this specific need.

Significant Concern: Fuel Quality (Rec-90) – A critical feature, unfortunately, comes with a severe reported drawback. One detailed review explicitly stated that the Rec-90 fuel purchased was "FULL of water," causing significant boat engine failure and associated costs. The station manager's reported unwillingness to address the issue, claiming it was "impossible," is a major highlight of concern. This indicates a potential risk for those relying on their specialized fuel, suggesting a need for extreme caution or alternative fueling options for sensitive equipment.

Customer Service Ambience: Another review noted that store employees, including the manager, seemed "more interested in securing dates than getting you out of the store," describing a "flirty conversation." While not directly impacting services, this suggests a potential lack of focus on customer efficiency, which could be a minor detractor for some.

In summary, while the presence of Subway and clean amenities are positives, the critical issue of reported fuel contamination and the management's response are significant concerns that prospective customers, especially those needing specialized fuels, should be acutely aware of when considering this Sunoco location.

Promotions or Special Offers

While the provided customer reviews for the Sunoco station at 13821 State Rte 3 in Sackets Harbor, NY, do not explicitly detail specific, real-time promotions, Sunoco as a brand, and gas stations with integrated food services like Subway, typically offer various loyalty programs and specials that New York customers can inquire about or utilize. Based on common industry practices and Sunoco's general offerings, potential promotions include:

  • Sunoco Go Rewards® Program: Sunoco offers a mobile app-based loyalty program that allows customers to save on fuel. By downloading the Sunoco app and linking a payment method, customers can typically save 3¢ per gallon on every fill-up. • Sunoco Rewards Credit Card: For even greater savings, customers can apply for the Sunoco Rewards Credit Card, which usually provides a consistent discount of 5¢ per gallon on fuel purchases. This discount can often be stacked with the Sunoco Go Rewards app savings.

  • Grocery Loyalty Link-Ups: Sunoco partners with various grocery store loyalty programs in different regions. New York customers might be able to link their grocery rewards cards (e.g., Price Chopper AdvantEdge Rewards, as listed on Sunoco's website for this location) to earn discounts on gas based on their grocery spending. It's advisable to check if your specific grocery store loyalty program is affiliated.

  • Subway Meal Deals: The on-site Subway often runs its own national and local promotions, such as "Footlong of the Day" specials, meal combos (e.g., sub, chips, and a drink for a set price), or limited-time offerings. These deals are typically advertised within the Subway restaurant itself.

  • In-Store Promotions: The convenience store section might have various promotions on snacks, beverages, or other "must-have items," such as "buy one, get one free" deals or discounted bundles.

Given the severe concern regarding fuel quality expressed in one review, it is especially important for customers, particularly those requiring specialized fuels like Rec-90, to exercise caution and perhaps prioritize direct inquiry or consider the reputation for fuel quality when evaluating potential savings. For general inquiries about promotions, checking the Sunoco app, visiting the station, or inquiring with staff are the best ways to stay informed about current offers at this Sackets Harbor location.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents and visitors in Sackets Harbor, New York, the Sunoco station at 13821 State Rte 3 offers a mix of conveniences that can make it a suitable, albeit potentially cautious, stop for their daily needs. Its suitability for locals is primarily driven by its strategic location and the range of amenities it bundles together.

This makes it an ideal stop for a quick lunch or dinner, enhancing its utility as a comprehensive service point. Additionally, the availability of "all the must have items" in the convenience store and the positive mention of clean restrooms contribute to a comfortable and efficient experience for most routine visits.

However, it is imperative for local New Yorkers to be aware of the serious concern raised about water contamination in the Rec-90 fuel and the reported unresponsiveness from management regarding the issue. For those with sensitive engines, particularly boaters, this is a critical factor that should lead to careful consideration or potentially seeking alternative fuel sources for specialized needs. Furthermore, the comment about staff being distracted by "flirty conversation" could impact the speed and professionalism of service for some.

In conclusion, while the Sunoco in Sackets Harbor offers commendable convenience through its location, integrated Subway, and general amenities, potential users, especially those requiring specific fuel types like Rec-90, should proceed with caution and perhaps verify fuel quality if possible. For standard fuel needs and quick convenience store stops, with the added benefit of on-site dining, it remains a locally accessible option in the New York region.

Sunoco Customer Reviews

I got fuel (rec-90) in my boat here on 7/20 on my way up to the 1000 Islands Poker Run. We arrived at the run and my boat ran for only a few minutes before dying. After being towed back into the boat ramp, we removed the fuel lines and found that the gas we had just gotten was FULL of water, causing my boat to not run and us missing the poker run. After getting the boat home and pulling more fuel from the tank, we found a massive amount of water in the fuel which led to having to drain the entire tank. We called the gas station and explained the situation to them and asked for a refund on just the $200 of fuel we had purchased from them (not the tow, or costs of having the tank drained and cleaned) we were told by the manager that it is “impossible” for water to come from their tanks and there’s nothing they were willing to do, even when proof of the water was offered. The manager did not want to hear it and just kept saying that it was 100% impossible (although it’s not impossible for any other gas stations”. Stay clear of this gas station if you’re filling anything that requires good, clean fuel to run. Especially avoid it if you don’t want to be stranded on the water forcing you to pay for a tow back in and forcing you to pay for avoidable repairs.

This place as a clean bathroom. There is a subway on site with seating. Store employees seemed more interested in securing dates than getting you out of the store though. Even the manager was involved in the flirty conversation. BUT they did have all the must have items!

Typical setup that one would expect for a gas station/convenience store. Prices are 6/10 compared to a brick & mortar store. Has most sought for items one could want while traveling.

Very poor service, everytime I go there out of coffee, nasty nasty staff including some mariah gal. Denied several sales for myself and several others that I'm aware of because she sits on a stick all day thinking she's higher than everyone else. Do not recommend going here.
