Sunoco Gas Station Introduce
For drivers in Medford, New Jersey, knowing where to fuel up is a routine part of navigating daily life. Gas stations are essential local hubs, supporting commutes, errands, and recreational trips throughout our beautiful Garden State. This article provides crucial and up-to-date information about the gas station located at 500 Stokes Road in Medford, a spot that many locals might recognize, but whose operational status has recently changed.
It's vital for New Jersey residents to have accurate information about local businesses, especially those as fundamental as gas stations. Fuel availability, accepted payment methods, and branding are all key factors that influence where locals choose to stop. With recent changes at the 500 Stokes Road location, this overview aims to clarify its current status and help you make informed decisions when planning your next fill-up.
The gas station is situated at
500 Stokes Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA.
Stokes Road is a well-trafficked artery within Medford, a community known for its charming downtown, excellent schools, and proximity to the Pinelands. This location makes the station accessible to a significant portion of Medford residents, whether they are commuting to work, running errands to local shops, or heading out for recreational activities in the surrounding natural areas. However, it is important to note a significant point regarding accessibility and reliability, as highlighted by customer reviews: one user reported, "I pulled up at 7 am and was told they were out of gas." While this can happen at any station, it's a critical piece of information for those relying on it for their early morning fuel needs. Furthermore, the property at 500 Stokes Road has been involved in legal proceedings related to its branding, which further emphasizes the need for locals to be aware of the most current information when planning a visit.
Given the recent removal of Sunoco signage and the station's disaffiliation from the Sunoco brand, it's important to approach the "Services Offered" section with caution, as specific details about its current independent operations are not widely publicized. However, based on what any functional gas station would typically provide, and assuming it continues to operate as a general fuel stop, residents can likely expect:
- Standard Fuel Grades: The station would typically offer regular, mid-grade, and premium gasoline options to serve various vehicle types. Diesel fuel would also likely be available for compatible vehicles.
- Convenience Store: Most gas stations in New Jersey, regardless of brand, include a small convenience store. This store would generally stock essential items such as snacks, beverages, tobacco products, and perhaps some basic automotive necessities like windshield fluid or oil.
- Air and Water Station: It is common for gas stations to provide facilities for inflating tires and adding water to radiators, crucial for vehicle maintenance.
- Payment Options: While the station no longer accepts Sunoco cards, it would undoubtedly accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and cash for fuel and in-store purchases.
It's crucial for users to be aware that without the backing of a major brand, the range or consistency of these supplementary services might vary. It is always advisable to check upon arrival if specific services, beyond basic fueling, are available.
The customer reviews provide significant insights into the current state and key features, or rather, critical aspects to be aware of, regarding this location:
- Important Branding Update: The most critical piece of information is the "Update Apr 2025: Sunoco signage has been removed. Beware this station is NOT a Sunoco. There are also several other stations in the area displaying Sunoco branding that do not accept Sunoco cards. I contacted Sunoco and they said they are trying to get the owner(s) to remove the signage." This clearly indicates that patrons should not expect Sunoco branding, pricing, or loyalty program benefits here. This is a crucial detail for locals who might assume it's still a Sunoco station, especially those who rely on Sunoco Rewards or fleet cards.
- Potential for Fuel Unavailability: The review stating, "I pulled up at 7 am and was told they were out of gas," highlights a significant operational concern. While hopefully an isolated incident, it suggests a potential for intermittent fuel shortages, which can be highly inconvenient for drivers on a schedule. Locals should consider calling ahead or having a backup plan, especially during off-peak hours or early mornings.
- Independent Operation: With the removal of Sunoco branding, the station is likely operating as an independent gas station. This means pricing and service quality might be determined solely by the local owner/operator, which could lead to variations compared to branded stations.
- Local Awareness Required: For Medford residents, it's essential to stay informed about this particular location, given the disaffiliation from Sunoco. This means relying less on brand assumptions and more on direct observation or recent local word-of-mouth for current conditions.
While positive features are not explicitly highlighted in the given reviews, the primary "feature" of this location now is its independent status and the need for customer awareness regarding its services and brand affiliation.
As this gas station is no longer operating under the Sunoco brand, it would not participate in any Sunoco-specific promotions, loyalty programs, or credit card offers (e.g., Sunoco Rewards Credit Card). Any promotions would be at the discretion of the independent owner/operator.
Generally, independent gas stations might offer:
- Cash Discounts: Some independent stations offer a slightly lower price per gallon for cash payments compared to credit card transactions. However, this was not mentioned in the provided reviews, and given New Jersey's unique gas service laws, it's not universally applied.
- Temporary In-Store Deals: There might be occasional promotions on convenience store items, such as discounted coffee, snacks, or beverages. These would typically be advertised on site.
Customers should not expect any major brand-wide promotions and should look for any offers directly at the station's premises.
For inquiries about the gas station at 500 Stokes Road in Medford, residents can use the following information:
- Address: 500 Stokes Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
- Phone: A publicly listed direct phone number for the currently operating gas station at 500 Stokes Road, independent of its former Sunoco affiliation, was not readily available through public data. For urgent inquiries or to confirm fuel availability, it may be best to visit the location directly during operating hours, or if a local number is displayed on site, to use that.
The gas station at 500 Stokes Road in Medford, NJ, is primarily suitable for locals due to its advantageous geographic location. Situated on a main road, it offers convenience for residents navigating Medford's various neighborhoods, whether on their daily commutes, running errands, or simply needing a quick fill-up. Despite its recent disaffiliation from the Sunoco brand, the fundamental need for fuel in the area ensures its continued relevance as a local pit stop.
However, for this station to truly be an optimal choice for locals, a high degree of awareness and adaptability is required from customers. The critical information that the "Sunoco signage has been removed" and that the station "is NOT a Sunoco" means that previous expectations regarding brand loyalty programs, specific fuel types (like Sunoco's race fuels), or consistent service standards associated with a national brand no longer apply. Locals must now view this as an independently operated station, which may come with its own unique characteristics.
The report of the station being "out of gas" at one point also underscores the importance for locals to perhaps confirm fuel availability, particularly during peak travel times or if relying on an early morning fill. While this can be an inconvenience, for those living in very close proximity or those who find it strategically located on their regular routes, it can still serve as a practical option. The suitability for locals now hinges on its pure locational advantage and the understanding that it operates without a major brand's umbrella. It remains a physical presence for fuel and possibly basic convenience items, serving as a functional, if perhaps less predictable, part of Medford's local infrastructure.

The place was just fine for getting gas, but the guy working there when we were there basically did not even speak to us! I think the only thing he said was Hi and nothing else, even when we were leaving. He looked very uninterested/bored. This gas station also has an empty/unused garage/car repair station. Definitely small fixes could improve this place a lot.
