While specific offerings can vary slightly by location and time, the general services you can expect are aligned with Speedway's standard model.

    • Beverages: A selection of sodas, energy drinks, juices, bottled water, and often hot coffee.
    • Snacks: Chips, candy, cookies, and other packaged snack items.
    • Basic Groceries: Sometimes a limited selection of essential grocery items like milk, bread, or canned goods for quick household needs.
    • Tobacco Products: Standard tobacco and vaping products, where legally permitted.
    • Automotive Essentials: Small items like windshield washer fluid, oil, or possibly air fresheners.
  • Restroom Facilities: Most Speedway locations offer public restrooms for customer use, providing a necessary comfort stop for travelers and local drivers alike.
  • Payment Options: Customers can generally pay for fuel and in-store purchases using various methods, including major credit cards, debit cards, and cash. It is important to note, however, that some locations may implement temporary "holds" on credit cards for fuel purchases, as highlighted in customer feedback, which is a point to be aware of if paying with plastic.
  • Loyalty Programs: Speedway typically operates a loyalty program, often called "Speedy Rewards." While not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, it's common for loyal customers to earn points on fuel and in-store purchases that can be redeemed for discounts or free items.

Features / Highlights

The Speedway at 5100 Commercial Dr in Yorkville, NY, has several operational characteristics and customer experiences that serve as notable features or highlights. While some feedback points to areas for improvement, understanding these aspects can help local users navigate their visits effectively.

  • Convenience for Fuel and Snacks: As a standard gas station and convenience store, its core strength lies in providing a quick and easy stop for both fuel and a wide assortment of snacks and beverages. This efficiency is a key feature for drivers on the go.
  • Acceptance of Company Cards: The ability to pay with "company card" is a significant highlight for commercial drivers or employees who manage fleet vehicles. This flexibility in payment options is crucial for businesses and their personnel who rely on such stations for regular fueling.
  • Potential for Loyalty Points: While the customer feedback indicates a disregard for "fuel points" due to a negative experience, the underlying existence of a loyalty program (common for Speedway) is a feature that can be beneficial for regular customers. Accumulating points for discounts or free items can add value over time.
  • Presence of "Cliff Down the Street": The mention of a competitor, "Cliff down the street," implies that there are alternative options nearby. While not a direct feature of this Speedway, it highlights a competitive landscape in Yorkville for gas and convenience services, giving consumers choices.

It is also important to acknowledge areas of concern that were highlighted by customer reviews, which, while negative, are features of the customer experience at this specific location:

  • Customer Service Issues: A significant highlight, though negative, is the reported "miserable and snobby" attitude of a staff member, particularly concerning service near closing time. This points to potential inconsistencies in customer service, which can be a critical factor for loyal customers.
  • Credit Card "Hold" Policy: The unexpected "hold" of over $126 on a card for a $6 gas purchase, without clear posting, is a critical operational feature that customers need to be aware of. This policy, if indeed unique to this location or inconsistently applied, can cause significant inconvenience and frustration.

These points, both positive and negative, collectively form the "features" of the Speedway experience at this Yorkville location, influencing local perceptions and choices.

Promotions or Special Offers

Like many large gas station and convenience store chains, Speedway typically offers various promotions and special deals to its customers. While specific, active promotions for the 5100 Commercial Dr location in Yorkville, NY, are not detailed in the provided customer reviews, patrons can generally anticipate a range of common Speedway offers.

Based on the standard Speedway business model, you might expect the following types of promotions or special offers:

  • Speedy Rewards Program: This is Speedway's primary loyalty program. Customers earn points on almost every purchase, including fuel and in-store items. These points can then be redeemed for discounts on fuel, free merchandise, or specific products within the convenience store. For frequent visitors, this program can offer substantial savings over time.
  • Fuel Discounts: Often tied to the Speedy Rewards program or specific payment methods (like using certain credit cards), Speedway frequently offers cents-off per gallon of gasoline. These discounts can be particularly attractive to high-volume users, such as the company truck mentioned in one review.
  • In-Store Promotions and Bundles: Look for deals on snacks, beverages, and other convenience items. This could include "buy one, get one free" offers, discounted pricing when purchasing multiple items together (e.g., a coffee and a breakfast sandwich combo), or limited-time price reductions on popular products.
  • Seasonal or Holiday Offers: Speedway often introduces special promotions around holidays or during specific seasons, which might include themed merchandise, special food items, or temporary price drops on certain categories of products.
  • Text/Email Alerts: Customers who sign up for Speedway's text or email marketing often receive exclusive coupons or alerts about upcoming sales directly to their phones or inboxes.

To ascertain the most current and specific promotions available at the Yorkville Speedway, the most reliable method is to visit the station directly, observe any signage at the pumps or inside the store, or inquire with the cashier during your visit. While one customer expressed a diminished interest in "fuel points" due to a negative service experience, the program itself remains a core offering for value-conscious consumers.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

The Speedway at 5100 Commercial Dr in Yorkville, NY, serves as a significant convenience hub for the local community, and despite some highlighted customer service concerns, it remains suitable for locals due to several practical considerations inherent to a large-chain gas station. Understanding these aspects helps New Yorkers in the area determine if it's the right stop for their needs.

Firstly, its strategic location on Commercial Drive offers excellent accessibility. This makes it a highly convenient option for daily commuters, delivery drivers, and local residents who need a quick and efficient stop for fuel or essential convenience store items. Its ease of access minimizes detours, a valuable asset in busy daily routines.

Secondly, the breadth of services offered aligns with the standard expectations of a modern gas station and convenience store. For many locals, the ability to combine a fuel stop with a quick grocery run or snack purchase is a significant time-saver.

Furthermore, for businesses and individuals who frequently fill up, the presence of a loyalty program like Speedy Rewards (though its benefits were overshadowed by a poor experience for one customer) can offer tangible savings over time, making it economically attractive for repeat visits. The acceptance of "company cards" also caters directly to the needs of local businesses with fleets, simplifying their fuel management.

While customer feedback indicates potential for improvement in terms of staff attitude and transparency regarding credit card holds, the core functionality of a Speedway – its reliable fuel supply and broad convenience store offerings – still addresses fundamental local needs. For those seeking a quick, efficient, and generally well-stocked option for their fueling and convenience requirements, the Speedway on Commercial Drive remains a viable choice in Yorkville, especially when considering alternative gas stations like "Cliff down the street" that offer a different experience. Ultimately, it caters to the fast-paced lives of New Yorkers, providing essential services at a convenient location.

I bought $6 of gas to to of a car rental and found I was charged over $126 as a "hold" on my card. While the cashier was nice, there's no posting anywhere that there would be a hold. I have never had this happen At any other speedway, or any other gas station at all. If it was posted, I would have just paid in cash, but this never even came to mind.

Always the lowest prices, the Speedy Rewards program is free, and comes with a ridiculous amount of perks! I just scan t before every fill up. I don’t keep track of it and noticed the last time I filled up that I was getting a gas discount! The few times I’ve gone inside the staff is always friendly. Not a huge selection snack wise as it is a tiny quick stop station but I wouldn’t go anywhere else if I could help it!
