RedLine Speed Shine is conveniently located at 2108 N Atherton St, State College, PA 16803, USA. This address places it directly on North Atherton Street, a major thoroughfare in State College. Its prominent position on such a well-trafficked road makes it exceptionally easy to find and access for residents and visitors alike.

North Atherton Street is a key artery connecting various parts of State College and providing access to and from surrounding areas. This means that whether you're coming from Penn State University, downtown State College, or the residential neighborhoods to the north, getting to RedLine Speed Shine is generally straightforward. The ease of access is a significant advantage, particularly for busy individuals who need to integrate a car wash into their daily routine without significant detours or traffic navigation challenges. Its highly visible location ensures that when you need a wash, RedLine Speed Shine is a convenient stop on your route.

Services Offered

RedLine Speed Shine provides a variety of car wash options to suit different preferences and cleaning needs, primarily operating as an express car wash facility.

  • Automatic Car Wash: This is a popular option for those seeking a quick and hands-off cleaning experience. RedLine Speed Shine offers both Soft Touch and Touchless automatic wash systems across its locations, suggesting a choice for customers based on their preference for cleaning methods. Customers can drive through a tunnel where automated brushes, soaps, and rinses clean the vehicle.
  • Self-Service Bays: For those who prefer to wash their vehicle themselves, RedLine Speed Shine offers heated self-service bays. These bays provide users with control over the washing process, allowing them to utilize high-pressure soap, foam brushes, rinses, and other features as needed. The self-service option operates on a timed basis.
  • Pre-Wash Spot Cleaning: For automatic washes, there is often a component where staff members do a "spot clean beforehand." This involves manually addressing particularly dirty areas like bug splatters on windshields and grills before the car enters the automatic wash tunnel. The thoroughness of this pre-wash can impact the overall cleanliness achieved by the automatic wash.
  • Vacuum Stations: While not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews for this specific location, most express car washes like RedLine Speed Shine typically offer self-service vacuum stations for interior cleaning, either complimentary with a wash or for a small fee.
  • Professional Detailing Services: Beyond the express washes, RedLine Speed Shine also offers professional detailing services. This suggests more in-depth cleaning for both the interior and exterior of the vehicle, going beyond what a standard wash can achieve. One general review mentions purchasing an "Interior Detail" package and being happy with the results.

Customers engaging with the self-service bays should be aware of the timing mechanism, as one review noted that the timer continued to advance even after turning the knob to "Stop," and that a minimum charge applies. For automatic washes, the effectiveness can depend on the thoroughness of the pre-wash by staff.

Features / Highlights

RedLine Speed Shine in State College, PA, offers several features and highlights that appeal to local car owners, though some aspects have generated mixed feedback.

  • Multiple Wash Options: A key highlight is the availability of both automatic car wash and self-service bays. This caters to different customer preferences, allowing for either a quick, automated clean or a more hands-on approach.
  • Convenient Location: Situated on N Atherton Street, the car wash is easily accessible from various parts of State College, making it a convenient stop for locals during their daily routines.
  • Automated Membership/Unlimited Wash Club: RedLine Speed Shine offers an Unlimited Wash Club. This feature is designed for frequent users, allowing them to wash their cars as often as they like for a monthly fee. This is a significant draw for those who need regular washes, especially in seasons with heavy road grime like winter.
  • Heated Self-Service Bays: For those opting for self-service, the bays are heated, which is a valuable feature, particularly during colder Pennsylvania months, making it more comfortable to wash your car in chilly weather.
  • Potential for Quality Wash (with caveats): One customer states they "do like the car wash and feel it best in the area with one exception," suggesting that despite issues, the actual cleaning performance can be good. Another mentions being "extremely happy with the results" of an interior detail package.

However, it's important to acknowledge areas where customers have experienced challenges:

  • Self-Service Timer/Billing Issues: A significant concern raised by a customer involved the self-service bay timer continuing to advance and being overcharged despite following instructions, with difficulties getting a response from management.
  • Inconsistent Automatic Wash Thoroughness: Reviews indicate that the effectiveness of the automatic wash can be inconsistent, particularly if the "spot clean beforehand" by staff is not thorough. Bug splatters, in particular, were noted as sometimes not being fully removed, leading to a perception of only "60% clean."
  • Customer Service Responsiveness: A common issue highlighted is difficulty reaching staff via phone for concerns or disputes, with calls often going straight to voicemail and no callbacks received.
Promotions or Special Offers

RedLine Speed Shine actively promotes its services through an Unlimited Wash Club, which serves as their primary special offer designed for frequent users in Pennsylvania.

  • Unlimited Wash Club: This membership allows customers to wash their vehicles as often as they like for a recurring monthly fee. While specific pricing was not detailed in the provided reviews, such clubs typically offer different tiers with varying levels of wash features. This is particularly appealing for drivers who endure daily commutes or face consistent exposure to road salt, dust, and grime, as it can be more cost-effective than paying for individual washes. One customer mentioned that the "membership is not worth it unless you get it in the winter and your car gets a lot of salt residue," implying its value is enhanced during certain seasons for specific needs.
  • Member-Only Discounts & Monthly Specials: While not explicitly detailed in the provided information, car wash chains often offer additional "Member Only Discounts & Monthly Specials" to Unlimited Wash Club members, further increasing the value proposition.
  • Annual Pre-Pay Option: Some unlimited wash clubs also offer a discount if you pre-pay for a full year of membership, often equating to one month free.

For individual washes, the self-service bays have a minimum charge (e.g., $3 for a quick rinse) to initiate the wash cycle, and charges are based on time used. Specific pricing for automatic single washes is not detailed in the provided reviews.

To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on the pricing tiers for their Unlimited Wash Club, any current promotional offers, or the cost structure for their self-service bays and individual automatic washes, it's recommended that State College locals contact RedLine Speed Shine directly or visit their website. Inquiring about current deals, especially for new members, could be beneficial.

It's worth noting, based on customer feedback, that reaching them via phone can sometimes be challenging, with calls often going to voicemail. Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

For residents of State College, Pennsylvania, RedLine Speed Shine on N Atherton Street presents itself as a suitable option for maintaining their vehicles' cleanliness, especially for those seeking convenience and flexibility. Its prime location on a major road ensures easy accessibility, allowing busy Pennsylvanians to integrate a car wash into their daily commutes or errands without significant hassle.

The availability of both automatic and self-service bays caters to diverse preferences. Drivers seeking a quick, hands-off experience can utilize the automatic wash, while those who prefer a more controlled, hands-on approach can use the heated self-service bays, a definite plus during colder months. The Unlimited Wash Club offers a compelling value proposition for frequent users, promising potential savings and unlimited access to washes, which can be particularly advantageous in Pennsylvania's varying weather conditions that can quickly dirty a vehicle.

However, locals should be aware of the mixed customer feedback regarding the consistency of the automatic wash's thoroughness (especially concerning pre-wash spot cleaning for bugs) and reported issues with self-service bay billing accuracy and customer service responsiveness. While these are valid concerns to consider, many still find RedLine Speed Shine to be a functional and often the "best in the area" option for a general car wash. For State College locals prioritizing convenience, multiple wash options, and potentially cost-effective unlimited plans, RedLine Speed Shine remains a relevant choice, provided they manage expectations regarding service consistency and potential communication challenges.

RedLine Speed Shine Customer Reviews

Used self service bay at N Atherton St Location for 10 minutes. As instructions stated turn knob to Stop when finished. I did so but the timer continued to advance. There was a sign posted saying the clock will continue to advance after turning to stop but user will not be charged the excess. I received my credit card bill for $19.00 which IMO was double what the charge should have been for 10 minutes of use. I documented my experience with 2 voice mails and 2 emails. I’ve received no response, no call back. No one ever picks up their office phone. Just rings and goes to message. Last resort is to dispute the entire $19.00 with the credit card issuer. I gave them 1 day. This is principle, not dollars. Lastly, fix your damn machine!! In spite of everything I do like the car was and feel it best in the area with one exception.

I’ve only gone here for the automatic car wash. The wash is only good if the people who spot clean beforehand are thorough. I tend to drive a lot so I get a lot of bug splatters on my windshield and grill. I’ve never gone through and felt my car got more than 60% clean. The people spot cleaning tend to a lot worse when there is a line behind you. The membership is not worth it unless you get it in the winter and your car gets a lot of salt residue. But even then the automatic car wash isn’t very good.

One of the best options for a standard car wash in state college. I wish they had those machines that clean up your car mats, but that’s ok. My advise is to get the membership package for one of there 24/7 washing stations. You will need this especially during the winter months.

I've used this dog wash in the past year several times. Now I've been here three times in one week and it's locked. Friday at 445pm Sunday 11am Sunday 345pm What's the new hours? Please post I see your response. I'm confused. When I pulled in Friday, your car wash was hopping with customers, so why was dog washed closed? Tried both doors.

I paid for the top car wash you could get here, and it did not clean my car. Don't bother coming here, it's not worth the time or money. I have basic bugs and dirt on my car, which any other basic carwash in the past at other locations has been able to clean off. The worst of it is on my mirrors, as you can see in the attached photos. However, this car wash service did nothing to alleviate the dirt and grime that is on my car. Don't come here, it isn't worth it.
