Coates Car Care Express Introduce

For car owners in Cortland, Ohio, and the surrounding Trumbull County area, keeping a vehicle clean is more than just aesthetics – it’s a necessity, especially with the changing seasons and road conditions that Ohio presents. While many car wash options exist, Coates Car Care Express, located at 2239 Elm Rd, has been a long-standing fixture in the community. Originally built by Mr. Coates, this express car wash has recently transitioned ownership to Mr. Magic Car Wash, bringing both continuity and some changes to its operation.

A car wash provides a convenient way to maintain your vehicle's appearance and protect its finish from the elements. Understanding the services offered, operational changes, and customer experiences at a local car wash like Coates Car Care Express is essential for Ohio drivers. This article aims to provide a clear and factual overview of this Cortland location, helping local users make informed decisions about where to entrust their vehicle for a thorough cleaning.

Location and Accessibility

Coates Car Care Express is conveniently located at 2239 Elm Rd, Cortland, OH 44410, USA. This address places it on a well-known road in Cortland, making it easily accessible for residents within the immediate area and from neighboring communities. Elm Road serves as a practical route for daily commutes and errands, ensuring that the car wash is a readily available stop for vehicle cleaning.

Car wash facilities are typically designed for easy drive-through access, allowing vehicles to enter the wash tunnel and exit efficiently. While specific details about traffic flow at this particular location are not provided, its presence on a main road suggests good visibility and straightforward entry points. For Ohio drivers, accessibility is key, allowing for quick and convenient visits to maintain their vehicles, especially after encountering winter salt or summer dust.

Services Offered

As an express car wash, Coates Car Care Express, now operating under the Mr. Magic Car Wash brand, typically offers automated tunnel wash services designed for speed and efficiency. Based on general express car wash models and information from Mr. Magic, you can expect the following types of services:

  • Automated Tunnel Washes: The primary service is a conveyor-belt driven wash tunnel where your vehicle is pulled through various stages of cleaning. These typically include:

    • Pre-soak and presoak arches: To loosen dirt and grime before brushes.

    • Soft-Touch Brushes: Designed to gently scrub the vehicle's exterior.

    • High-Pressure Rinse: To remove soap and loosened debris.

    • Wax/Protectant Application: Often includes options for basic wax, clear coat protectants, or advanced ceramic/graphene sealants for added shine and protection.

    • Spot-Free Rinse: Utilizes deionized water to prevent water spots upon drying.

    • High-Powered Dryers: Large blowers to remove excess water from the vehicle.

  • Tiered Wash Packages: Express car washes usually offer multiple wash tiers, ranging from a basic exterior wash to more comprehensive packages that might include:

    • Underbody wash and rust inhibitors.

    • Wheel cleaning (e.g., wheel blast, tire shine).

    • Triple foam conditioner.

    • Hot wax or specialized protectants like Simoniz Ceramic Sealant.

  • Free Self-Serve Vacuums: It is common for express car washes to provide free self-service vacuums for customers to clean their vehicle interiors after the wash. However, a customer review mentions vacuums "laying on the ground sucking up water from the rain," suggesting potential issues with their functionality at times.

  • Window Wiping Stations: While not explicitly stated, some express car washes also provide window wiping supplies (squeegees and cleaning solution) for customers.

Features / Highlights

Coates Car Care Express, under its new management as Mr. Magic Car Wash, aims to offer features that enhance the car washing experience. However, recent customer reviews highlight some areas of concern that potential users should be aware of:

  • Transition to Mr. Magic Car Wash Brand: The business was acquired by Steel City Wash LLC, operating as Mr. Magic Car Wash. This acquisition typically means a transition to Mr. Magic's operational standards, technology, and branding. Mr. Magic aims to provide "express service, innovative technology, and high standards."

  • Automated Tunnel Technology: Express car washes, including Mr. Magic, often emphasize efficient automated tunnel systems designed for quick and thorough exterior cleaning. These systems often utilize soft cloth brushes and various chemical applications for a deep clean.

  • Unlimited Wash Club Membership: Mr. Magic Car Wash heavily promotes its "Unlimited Wash Club." These memberships allow customers to wash their car as often as they like for a single monthly fee. These clubs typically offer different tiers (e.g., Quick Wash, Clean Wash, Protect Wash, Magic Shine Wash) with varying levels of services included. This is a significant feature for frequent users.

  • Potential for Advanced Finishes: Mr. Magic's broader brand may offer premium finishes such as Simoniz Ceramic Sealant, designed to provide enhanced protection against UV rays, road salt, and other contaminants, offering durability for up to 30 days.

Important Considerations (based on reviews):

  • Maintenance Concerns: Recent customer feedback indicates issues with equipment functionality, such as the wash not working properly and vacuums being out of order. This suggests a potential need for increased investment in repairs and maintenance following the ownership change.

  • Pre-Wash Prep Issues: One review highlights concerns about vehicles not being properly prepped (e.g., scrubbing, spraying wheels) before entering the tunnel, which can lead to inadequate cleaning or even damage. This points to a potential deviation from optimal operational procedures.

  • Damage Policy and Older Vehicles: A critical piece of information from a former employee's review is that the company "does not cover vehicles 10 years and older if they get damaged." Additionally, they may not cover damage if it's not reported before leaving the premises, even with cameras available. This is vital for customers to understand their liability.

  • Winter Operations: The review specifically warns about ice buildup on curtains and equipment during winter months due to lack of pre-spraying, which can lead to vehicle damage. This is a significant concern for Ohio drivers.

Promotions or Special Offers

The primary promotion at Coates Car Care Express, now under the Mr. Magic Car Wash brand, revolves around its Unlimited Wash Club. While specific pricing for the Cortland location isn't provided, typical Mr. Magic Unlimited Wash Club offerings are as follows (prices may vary by location and change):

  • Unlimited Wash Club Memberships: These memberships offer the best value for frequent washers. They are typically billed monthly and allow for unlimited washes (often limited to once per day) for a single vehicle. Common tiers might include:

    • Quick Wash Club: Basic exterior wash, clear coat protection, hot air dry (e.g., around $19.99 + tax/month).

    • Clean Wash Club: Includes Quick Wash features plus underbody treatment, triple foam conditioner, and wheel blast (e.g., around $27.99 + tax/month).

    • Protect Wash Club: Includes Clean Wash features plus Simoniz Hot Wax & Shine and an additional wheel blast (e.g., around $35.99 + tax/month).

    • Magic Shine Wash Club: The top tier, including all Protect Wash features plus Simoniz Ceramic Sealant and Tire SHINE (e.g., around $39.99 + tax/month).

  • No Long-Term Contracts: Unlimited Wash Club memberships are typically month-to-month, allowing customers to cancel at any time (though some terms, like a 3-month minimum commitment or early cancellation fees, might apply, as seen in Mr. Magic's general terms and conditions).

  • Multi-Location Access: A key benefit of Mr. Magic's Unlimited Wash Club is that memberships are often valid at "ANY of our Mr. Magic Car Wash locations," which includes other former Coates Car Care sites in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This offers significant flexibility for members who travel within the region.

  • New Member Sign-Up Offers: Occasionally, Mr. Magic may offer introductory promotions for new Unlimited Wash Club members, such as a discounted first month or an extra service with sign-up.

  • Gift Cards and Wash Books: Beyond monthly memberships, look for options to purchase gift cards or multi-wash books, which can also offer savings over single washes.

Ohioans interested in these offers should visit the Cortland location or the Mr. Magic Car Wash website to confirm current pricing and specific terms for the Unlimited Wash Club, as these can change and vary by location. It is particularly important to review the terms regarding damage liability for older vehicles.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For car owners in Cortland, Ohio, Coates Car Care Express, now operating under the Mr. Magic Car Wash brand, offers a convenient and accessible option for automated exterior car washing. Its location on Elm Road ensures ease of access for local residents, allowing for quick stops to maintain vehicle cleanliness, which is especially important given Ohio's varied weather conditions. The primary appeal lies in its express tunnel wash system, designed for efficiency, and the enticing prospect of an Unlimited Wash Club membership, which can provide significant value for frequent users by allowing unlimited washes for a fixed monthly fee.

However, it is crucial for New Yorkers in the area to approach this location with informed awareness. Recent customer feedback suggests ongoing challenges with equipment maintenance, pre-wash preparation, and a strict damage policy, particularly concerning older vehicles (10 years and older are not covered for damage) and the requirement to report issues before leaving the premises. While the transition to the Mr. Magic brand aims to bring "innovative technology" and "high standards," the effectiveness of this transition appears to be a work in progress at this specific location. For locals, if you decide to visit, it's advisable to thoroughly inspect your vehicle before and after the wash, understand the current damage policies, and consider the potential implications, especially during winter months when ice buildup can be a factor. Ultimately, Coates Car Care Express provides the convenience of an automated wash for a clean vehicle, but staying informed and vigilant about the terms of service will ensure the most satisfactory experience for Ohio drivers.

Coates Car Care Express Customer Reviews

It's a shame what this place looks like today. Nowhere near what it was when Mr Coates built this business. 🙁. I'm guessing since they have sold the business to Mr Magic Car Wash that they aren't investing any money into the repairs that are so desperately needed. Once again I was at the elm road location and the car wash was not working properly. And all the vacuums were laying on the ground sucking up water from the rain. And, I will be posting pictures of the damage to my car because no soap was used when going thru and it scratched my vehicle. I will be submitting a claim.

Ripped the back trim off of my Dad’s new car… when you do not prep the cars before they go through the tunnel this is what happens!! Thankfully the dealership will fix it because this company does not take care of their customers! I used to manage the Howland location. I loved working for Coates but as soon as this new company took control it went down hill. If you leave the premises and don’t report damage they will not cover it even though we have cameras and can check to see if the car came in with damage or not! They do not tell you when you purchase a club that they do not cover vehicles 10 years and older if they get damaged. When you send a dirty car through without scrubbing, spraying the wheels, and generally not looking at the car at all it causes damage to vehicles and equipment. All they want is to sell you a club membership so they can show the bank their “guaranteed” money and buy up more family ran businesses. They do not care about the quality of your wash at all & that is why I quit! Also, we are in the winter months. Ice builds up on the curtains especially from trucks with bed covers. Since they don’t spray that stuff off anymore it will stick to the equipment and slam into your car causing damage. Just a heads up I’m sure this will be a problem.

It use to be a good car wash when Coats owned it. But since they sold it has gotten worse. Since they sold it they keep taking away things they do to your vehicle. I will not renew my membership. Or ever go back. Theses photos show how this is not a clean vehicle.

I’ve been going with ModWash for the last few years and the last year has been HORRIBLE. Just went to Coates for the first time and OMG THE DIFFERENCE IS INSANE. THEY ACTUALLY GET THE CAR CLEAN AND IT LOOKS AMAZING. WE’RE SWITCHING OUR VEHICLES TO COATES MEMBERSHIP. THANK YOU COATES. I forgot to add the kids working were very professional and very nice and did their job well.

Coates used to be a great car wash before they sold it. I took my new 2024 Traverse, I’ve had for 4 months, through the car wash on 12/6/24. Purchased the $16 wash. As I entered the wash, no one sprays or prewashes the car anymore. No soap was dispensed on my vehicle from the actual car wash before the side spinning brushes started spinning along my dry vehicle. Once I left the car wash, I looked at my car, and I had scratches from the very front all the way along the sides including the tailgate as the brushes meet in the back of the car. I filed a claim. Within a week they sent me a letter saying they determined through video, that the damage was already done to my car. And that the wash was functioning properly. These statements couldn’t be more false. Again, my car is 4 months old and didn’t have one scratch on it. This car wash is horrible. If you care about your car, please go to ModWash 1/2 mile from Coates.Coates damaged my car terribly and their customer service stinks. Included is just an example of the scratches that now cover my car.
