Location and Accessibility

Services Offered

As a "Self Serve Car Wash," the primary service offered here is the provision of bays equipped for customers to manually wash their vehicles. This typically includes:

  • Self-Service Wash Bays: These bays are outfitted with high-pressure wands that dispense various cleaning solutions. Common options often include:

    • Pre-soak to loosen dirt and grime.

    • High-pressure soap or foam brush application for scrubbing.

    • High-pressure rinse to remove soap and dirt.

    • Wax or clear coat protectant for shine and protection.

    • Spot-free rinse to prevent water spots upon drying.

  • DIY Vacuuming: Most self-serve car washes also offer vacuum stations for interior cleaning. These are typically coin or token operated, allowing customers to thoroughly vacuum their car's interior after the wash.

A crucial detail from customer reviews is that the car wash "requires tokens that need to be purchased inside the shop." This means that unlike some self-serve washes that accept direct cash or card payments at the bay, users must first enter an associated shop to acquire the necessary tokens for operation. The cost for a wash was noted by a reviewer as "$8."

While the business name implies only self-serve, it's possible that an automatic wash could also be on the premises given its association with a BP gas station at the same address, which often feature car washes. However, the explicit "Self Serve Car Wash" in the name and customer reviews heavily emphasize the self-serve aspect.

Features / Highlights

The 372 Coram Self Serve Car Wash has several features that define its operation and customer experience:

  • DIY Control: The self-serve model gives customers complete control over the washing process, allowing them to focus on specific areas of their vehicle and use as much or as little of each solution as they deem necessary. This can be appealing for car enthusiasts or those with particular cleaning preferences.

  • Hands-On Cleaning: For those who enjoy washing their own cars, the self-serve bays provide the equipment without the need to set up at home, or deal with water and chemical disposal.

However, it is essential to highlight critical negative feedback that significantly impacts the perceived features and overall suitability:

  • Token-Based System: The requirement to purchase tokens inside the shop, rather than paying directly at the wash bay, is a significant point of frustration for customers. One reviewer described it as a "nearly invisible little stand" and found the token system inconvenient, especially for "late night car wash" needs, implying that the shop might not always be open for token purchase, or it adds an extra step to the process. This can lead to wasted trips if the shop is closed or if payment systems for tokens are malfunctioning.

  • Operational Issues: A very strong negative review highlighted that the token system "doesn't work" at times. This indicates potential reliability issues with the payment mechanism, leading to a "Does not work. Stay away" warning from a frustrated customer.

  • Customer Service Concerns (Specific Employee): A loyal monthly customer reported recurring "negative vibe and attitude" from a particular "Latino employee running the line." This individual was described as "forever MAD & RUDE," allegedly yelling at customers and rushing cars through without adhering to specific requests (like taping up rear wipers, which had previously been lost). This serious concern about staff demeanor could significantly deter repeat business and overall customer satisfaction.

  • Damage Concerns: The same loyal customer reported losing "3 rear wipers there" in the past and expressed ongoing concern about potential vehicle damage, which is a major liability for any car wash.

These critical points strongly suggest that while the self-serve concept is there, the execution and operational reliability, particularly regarding payment systems and staff interactions, have presented significant challenges for some customers.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided customer reviews, there is no explicit mention of specific promotions or special offers at the 372 Coram Self Serve Car Wash, beyond the stated price of "$8" for a wash using tokens. Self-serve car washes sometimes offer:

  • Token Bundles: Discounted rates when purchasing tokens in bulk (e.g., "buy 10 tokens, get 1 free").

  • Loyalty Programs: Some self-serve washes might have loyalty cards or apps that offer rewards for frequent visits, though no such program is indicated here.

  • Monthly Subscriptions (implied): One review mentions being a "loyal monthly paying customer" and having a "subscription," which suggests that some form of recurring payment or membership plan might be available, potentially offering better value for frequent users. However, specific details on this program are not provided.

Given the reported issues with the token system and customer service, any promotions would need to be clearly communicated and reliably implemented to gain customer trust. Customers interested in potential savings or membership options should inquire directly at the location, though the reviews suggest a need for caution.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents of Coram, New York, and surrounding Long Island communities who specifically seek a self-service car wash, 372 Coram Self Serve Car Wash presents an option to consider, primarily for its core offering of DIY cleaning bays. Its location on Middle Country Road ensures general accessibility for those in the area looking for a hands-on approach to washing their vehicle.

However, based on significant customer feedback, potential users in New York should approach this establishment with caution. The reported issues with the token-only payment system (requiring an inside purchase), instances of the system not working, and severe complaints about rude staff behavior and even potential vehicle damage, paint a challenging picture for a consistent and positive customer experience. While the idea of a convenient self-serve wash is appealing, the operational and service concerns detailed by loyal customers suggest that reliability and customer satisfaction may be inconsistent. For locals prioritizing a hassle-free experience or dependable customer service, exploring other car wash options in the New York region might be advisable until these reported issues are demonstrably resolved.

372 Coram Self Serve Car Wash Customer Reviews

This is not a car wash, this is a nearly invisible little stand that you have to use tokens that doesn’t work. It requires tokens that need to be purchased inside the shop. I can’t believe I drove 20 minutes to get here to get a late night car wash when I needed it. Does not work. Stay away. Oh and it’s $8. See pics

Amazing self serve car wash! in 10 minutes I was definitely able to make my car shine, very cheap, I'm definitely going to come back again. Best car wash machine I've used so far! Only down side is that I have to drive quiet a bit to get to it, but it's definitely worth it!
