Specialty Engine Rebuilding, located at 5235 Unruh Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19135, USA, is an auto repair station that focuses on the intricate and demanding field of engine repair and rebuilding. With a direct phone line at (215) 333-6606 or mobile at +1 215-333-6606, this establishment aims to provide specialized services for vehicles requiring significant engine work.
Operating within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, Specialty Engine Rebuilding is positioned to serve local users who are facing serious automotive issues, particularly those related to their vehicle's engine. This category encompasses businesses that offer a wide array of services necessary to maintain, diagnose, and repair motor vehicles. For Specialty Engine Rebuilding, the core offering revolves around bringing damaged or worn-out engines back to life, often as a more cost-effective alternative to complete engine replacement.
While specific details about the internal environment of Specialty Engine Rebuilding are not extensively available, auto repair shops, especially those specializing in engine work, typically feature a dedicated garage area equipped with heavy-duty machinery, diagnostic tools, and specialized equipment for engine disassembly, cleaning, machining, and reassembly. This includes engine hoists, precision measurement tools, parts cleaning stations, and dedicated workspaces for meticulous rebuilding processes. The environment would generally be industrial, focusing on functionality and the safe handling of vehicle components and fluids. Given the nature of engine rebuilding, one would expect a focus on cleanliness in areas where precision parts are handled, even within a bustling workshop setting.
The primary service offered by Specialty Engine Rebuilding is, as the name suggests, engine rebuilding. This involves taking an engine that has experienced significant wear, damage, or failure, disassembling it, inspecting all components, replacing or machining worn parts (such as pistons, bearings, camshafts, crankshafts, cylinder heads, and valves), and then reassembling it to meet or exceed original manufacturer specifications. This process is highly technical and requires specialized expertise and equipment. Beyond rebuilding, it is reasonable to infer that they also perform engine swaps and engine installations, as indicated by customer experiences. These services are crucial for vehicles with irreparable engine damage or those seeking performance upgrades.
The features of Specialty Engine Rebuilding, based on available information, center around their specialization in engine work. This distinct focus sets them apart from general auto repair shops. They cater to significant mechanical failures, particularly those where a vehicle's heart – its engine – has given out. The owner, Ted, appears to be a direct point of contact for customers, suggesting a hands-on approach to managing the business and customer interactions. The business also deals with heavy-duty vehicles, as evidenced by a customer bringing in an F-350 welding rig, indicating capability with larger and more specialized automotive needs.
However, an objective introduction must also address customer feedback. One review highlights a significant concern regarding project completion times. A customer reported a delay of five months for an engine swap that was initially quoted for two weeks, with the vehicle remaining incomplete despite the engine being installed for over a month. This suggests potential issues with project management, workload capacity, or communication regarding timelines. Another review echoes this sentiment, mentioning a month-long wait for a Detroit 60 engine rebuild, though noting the price wasn't bad and the owner was "cool to work with." While the owner's demeanor is appreciated, the recurring theme of extended completion times is a critical point for potential customers to consider. It implies that while the shop undertakes complex engine work, there may be challenges in meeting promised deadlines. This could be due to being "overwhelmed and under water," as one customer suggested, which is a common challenge in specialized repair fields.
Based on this information, potential promotional aspects could emphasize their expertise in handling complex engine issues, offering a specialized alternative to general mechanics for significant engine problems. They could highlight their ability to work on various engine types, including diesel engines, as indicated by the Detroit 60 rebuild. For promotional information, Specialty Engine Rebuilding could consider communicating clear and realistic timelines for their specialized services upfront, managing customer expectations effectively. Given the feedback, demonstrating improved efficiency and turnaround times would be a strong promotional point. Highlighting the cost-effectiveness of rebuilding an engine versus replacing the entire vehicle could also be a compelling selling point for customers facing such significant repairs.
In summary, Specialty Engine Rebuilding is a specialized auto repair station in Philadelphia, focusing on comprehensive engine repair and rebuilding services. While they offer the technical expertise for critical engine work, including for heavy-duty vehicles, potential customers should be aware of past customer experiences regarding extended project timelines. Their strengths lie in their specific focus on engines, which can be a valuable resource for individuals needing such highly technical repairs.

Specialty Engine Rebuilding Customer Reviews
I took my f-350 welding rig to this business. It had a blown engine. I provided them with a short block and was told that they could do the swap within 2 weeks. I was told I would need to put 50% down and 50% due upon completion. Ted charged my card the whole amount. I told him that was fine because I expected the vehicle to be finished within 2 weeks. Needless to say that was a bad idea. It's been 5 months and countless excuses later. He has given me written deadlines and has failed to meet every single one. The engine has been installed for over a month. He has had less than 2 days of work to do to complete the truck. It feels like he is overwhelmed and under water with his business. I personally like Ted who is the owner but has lost my trust and future business.
