Speakeasy Customs & Classics Introduce
Speakeasy Customs & Classics, located at 2050 Parkes Dr, Broadview, IL 60155, USA, positions itself within the "Auto Repair Stations" category with a very specific and ambitious focus: the restoration, custom fabrication, and high-end paintwork of classic and custom vehicles. This is not a typical general repair shop, but rather a specialized facility aiming to serve enthusiasts and collectors looking for meticulous bodywork and unique modifications.
The environment at Speakeasy Customs & Classics, as inferred from customer feedback, would be that of a dedicated fabrication and paint shop. Positive reviews suggest a workspace capable of intricate metal work and custom panel forming, implying well-equipped bays for welding, shaping, and precise body preparation. The ability to produce "concours-worthy" paint jobs, as mentioned for a trophy-winning 1992 Nissan 240SX, points to a sophisticated paint booth and meticulous finishing processes. This environment suggests a focus on detailed craftsmanship rather than high-volume, quick repairs. However, the negative review implies potential inconsistencies in workflow management, as a bare metal 1968 GTO reportedly "took over a year and did not even start on it." This contrast suggests that while the physical capabilities for high-quality work may exist, the operational environment can experience significant bottlenecks or management issues.
The services offered by Speakeasy Customs & Classics are highly specialized and cater to a niche market within the automotive repair industry. Their core competencies, as highlighted by a positive customer, include: Rust Repair and Metal Work: Greg, the owner, is specifically lauded as a "master with rust repair and metal work." This includes the ability to custom form panels when off-the-shelf alternatives are unavailable, a crucial service for rare or vintage vehicles. Custom Touches: They can incorporate custom modifications as desired by the client. High-Quality Auto Painting: The shop is capable of delivering paint jobs that are "concours-worthy," meaning they meet the extremely high standards required for car show competitions. Examples include painting a 1992 Nissan 240SX that won a trophy and extensive metalwork and paint on bare shell restorations for rare vehicles like a 1960 Triumph Estate Wagon and a 1954 Mercedes 170D Pickup. They also handle collision work and full-scale restorations of rare vehicles. However, it's important to note that the negative review indicates potential issues with the scope of work, as a car was returned not running with the explanation that "his mechanic quit," suggesting that mechanical work might not be a primary in-house specialty or is subject to external dependencies. This implies their strength lies more in body and paint than comprehensive mechanical restoration.
The features that define Speakeasy Customs & Classics are a mix of highly specialized strengths and significant operational challenges. On the positive side, the shop boasts exceptional expertise in metal fabrication and rust repair, particularly for custom and classic vehicles. Greg's mastery in this area allows for unique solutions to challenging body issues. Their ability to deliver concours-level paint quality is another outstanding feature, attracting clients who demand the highest aesthetic standards. The attention to detail in their finished work, as praised by a satisfied customer, indicates a commitment to precision. They are also noted as "very easy to work with" by positive reviewers, suggesting good customer relations when projects run smoothly. However, a major recurring challenge, as highlighted by the negative feedback, is poor project management and communication. The long delays ("took over a year and did not even start"), lack of reimbursement for a down payment, and unsatisfactory final quality ("full bondo job, over spray, and still has waves") are significant drawbacks. Issues with parts fitment ("Trim did not fit at all, side windows did not line back up") and the vehicle not running as expected indicate problems with overall project execution and quality control. The mention of the shop having "relocated" also suggests potential instability or changes in their operational structure, which might contribute to inconsistent experiences. This contrast reveals that while they possess high-level skills, particularly in metal and paint, the overall customer journey can be unpredictable.
In terms of promotional information, Speakeasy Customs & Classics primarily relies on the showcase of their high-profile restoration projects and awards. Winning a trophy at a prestigious event like the Geneva Concours car show for a vehicle they painted serves as powerful promotional material, attracting other high-end clients and collectors. The ability to work on "very rare vehicles" also acts as a strong draw, signaling their expertise in handling unique and valuable projects. While specific marketing campaigns are not detailed, positive word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients who appreciate their specialized skills ("We highly recommend Speakeasy Customs") would be crucial. For local users in Broadview and beyond, the provided phone numbers, (312) 253-7464 and +1 312-253-7464, serve as direct contact points for inquiries about their specialized services. Given their niche, they might also promote through classic car forums, enthusiast events, and possibly a portfolio of their completed projects. However, potential clients should also be aware of the negative feedback regarding project timelines and quality, suggesting that a thorough initial consultation, clear contracts, and perhaps phased payments might be advisable to manage expectations. The mixed reviews indicate that while they can achieve exceptional results, the customer experience can be inconsistent, making it essential for prospective clients to conduct due diligence and establish clear communication protocols.
In conclusion, Speakeasy Customs & Classics at 2050 Parkes Dr, Broadview, IL 60155, USA, operates as a specialized "Auto Repair Station" with a distinct focus on classic and custom vehicle restoration, including expert metalwork, rust repair, and concours-quality painting. While highly praised for their craftsmanship on specific projects and their ability to handle rare vehicles, customer experiences are notably mixed, with significant concerns raised about project timelines, communication, and overall execution quality in some instances. Their environment is geared towards intricate fabrication and finishing. Services include custom bodywork, high-end paint jobs, and full restorations. The primary promotional aspects are their track record of award-winning work and high-profile projects. However, potential clients should approach with a clear understanding of their specific needs and engage in thorough communication to mitigate the risks associated with the reported inconsistencies in service delivery.

Speakeasy Customs & Classics Customer Reviews
Greg and his team are fantastic! Greg is a master with rust repair and metal work. He can custom form a panel if an off-the-shelf panel is not available, and he can add custom touches if you like. The team at Speakeasy painted a 1992 Nissan 240SX for us that won a trophy at the Geneva Concours car show in 2023, and they also did extensive metal work and paint on two bare shell restorations of very rare vehicles for us in 2024, including a 1960 Triumph Estate Wagon and a 1954 Mercedes 170D Pickup. We love their attention to detail, and they are very easy to work with. We highly recommend Speakeasy Customs for collision work, rust repair, or concours-worthy restorations.

Terrible! Gave him a bare metal 1968 gto. Took over a year and did not even start on it. Was going to take my car back but he did not have the money to reimburse my down payment. Worked with him to make it right. Got back a full bondo job, over spray, and still has waves in the hood. Was originally supposed to have the car running when returned, but was not running because he said his mechanic quit. Trim did not fit at all, side windows did not line back up. Terrible work and customer service. Disappointing to say the least, was a neighborhood shop but relocated.

I asked Greg if he could handle a complete restoration of my 1995 impala ss, and he assured me he could. I wanted it painted, new full interior, stereo system installed, new rims and brakes. I paid Greg $15,000 up front to start the build and I was quoted $6,000 for the paint job, and $5,000 for the interior. That’s what he was going to do first. He was paid in full, in December of 2019 and the car was supposed to be done by February. I did not get the car back until October and it wasn’t completed. The only work Greg did on my car was the paint job and the interior, which I was quoted $11,000 for. So the remaining $4,000 was not refunded to me. Greg told me he didn’t have the money to give me back, but he would give me an IOU paint job if I ever needed 1. Once I got the car back and took it to a detail shop to have it buffed and detailed, the people there pointed out all the flaws in Greg’s work. The car was not disassembled when painted, and that is not what a $6,000 paint job is. You can still see the old paint in all the crevices, and there are bubbles in the paint called fish eyes all over the car. Dings and dents were not fixed, just painted over. And since the parts were not taken off and stood up, the paint dripped down the doors. And there’s gobs of paint on the underside of the doors. The interior was treated with the same disregard, parts were broken by Greg and glued back in place. Everything was ripped out of the interior and broken. So instead of replacing the pieces, he super glued it back in place. And I know this to be true because I had to have all of Greg’s work redone, and upon undoing all his work, I found out what he’d done. To be honest, I would not recommend this place to an ENEMY!! By far one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Greg assured me that he could take on the project, no problem. He took my money knowing that he could not in fact do this kind of work. And then when I realized he couldn’t do it and I told him I didn’t want him to do anymore work on my car, he couldn’t provide me with the remaining $4,000. That he did no work for. I’ve had to hire a lawyer, and I have to go to court in order to get my money back. To anyone reading this, please do not waste your time or money with Greg. He should not be quoting people on jobs he has no idea how to do. This is a paint shop only, and the paint jobs here suck!! A $6,000 paint job and he didn’t take the doors off, he literally painted the car while it was still assembled. Though I am embarrassed, I just hope that the next person doesn’t have to go through what I went through. My name is John Abel and this is a true story

Pay them $4,000 to do some bodywork on my car last winter. Taking them to court now for not finishing the work. Worst experience ever. Lot of money lost 🤦
