Short Mountain Diesel, LLC Introduce

Short Mountain Diesel, LLC, located at 3205 Nashville Hwy, Smithville, TN 37166, USA, operates as an Auto Repair Station primarily specializing in diesel vehicles. This establishment aims to provide comprehensive repair and maintenance services for a range of automotive needs. For inquiries or to schedule service, customers can reach them at (615) 454-0999 or +1 615-454-0999.

The environment at Short Mountain Diesel, LLC, based on customer feedback, appears to be a busy workshop. The positive review mentions the typical wait times for "any good diesel shop in the area," suggesting that the facility is in high demand for specialized diesel work. This implies a professional setting equipped to handle complex engine repairs and modifications specific to diesel vehicles. While the specific layout or customer amenities aren't detailed, the focus is clearly on the technical aspects of vehicle repair. The differing customer experiences suggest that while their diesel specialization is strong, the approach to other vehicle types may vary.

Services Offered

Short Mountain Diesel, LLC, as its name suggests, holds a strong emphasis on diesel engine repair and performance, though they also offer services for other vehicle types.

  • Diesel Engine Performance & Repair: This is their standout service. They are notably proficient in complex diesel engine work, specifically highlighted by a positive review for installing headstuds on a 6.0 Powerstroke Excursion. This type of repair is critical for enhancing the reliability of these specific diesel engines and indicates a high level of specialized expertise in power train and temperature management.

  • Engine Timing & Firing Order Correction: They provide services for ensuring correct engine timing and firing order, as noted by a customer bringing in a classic Ford E350. This is fundamental for engine efficiency and performance.

  • AC System Installation, Leak Testing & Recharging: They offer services related to vehicle air conditioning systems, including the installation of new compressors, leak detection, and system recharging.

  • Gauge Troubleshooting & Repair: The shop attempts to diagnose and repair issues with vehicle gauges, such as fuel and oil pressure gauges. This involves checking wiring and sensor connections, though customer experiences here have varied.

  • Carburetor Adjustment: For older vehicles, they perform carburetor adjustments, a specialized service for maintaining optimal fuel-air mixture in vintage or classic cars.

  • General Vehicle Inspections: Customers bring in vehicles for a "list of things to be checked out," indicating they offer general diagnostic and inspection services to identify various mechanical issues.

Features and Customer Experience

The features of Short Mountain Diesel, LLC, and the customer experience can be viewed through two distinct lenses, reflecting their specialized nature and the varying outcomes for different vehicle types.

Strengths (Predominantly for Diesel Vehicles):
  • Specialized Diesel Expertise: Their most significant feature is their highly capable diesel mechanics, particularly for demanding jobs like 6.0 Powerstroke headstud installations. The "rock solid" temperature control experienced by a satisfied customer after this service speaks volumes about their quality of work in this niche.

  • Quality Work on Diesel Engines: For their core diesel services, customers report "great work at a fair price." The long-term performance improvement (3000 miles with stable temps) indicates thorough and effective repairs.

  • Fair Pricing (for specialized diesel work): The positive review mentions "fair price" for a complex diesel job, suggesting that their rates are competitive for the specialized expertise they offer.

  • Commitment to Complex Jobs: Tackling intricate issues like headstud replacement on a 6.0 Powerstroke demonstrates a willingness and capability to handle challenging and time-consuming repairs.

Areas with Mixed or Negative Experiences (Predominantly for Older/Non-Diesel Vehicles):
  • Inconsistent Diagnostic Thoroughness: One customer experienced issues where critical problems like a melted distributor connector, fouled spark plugs (after requesting them to be checked), and a stopped-up AC expansion valve were missed during initial inspections or repairs. This indicates potential gaps in comprehensive diagnostics, especially for older or non-diesel vehicles.

  • Repeated Issues Post-Repair: The need for the customer to personally re-diagnose and fix issues (AC, fuel/oil gauges, carburetor adjustment) shortly after paying for services suggests that the repairs weren't always fully resolved or tested effectively on the first attempt for non-diesel vehicles.

  • Potential for "Ripped Off" Feeling: The considerable cost ($786.72) for services that ultimately needed customer re-work led to a feeling of being "ripped off," which is a significant detractor from customer satisfaction for certain vehicle types.

  • Apparent Specialization Gap: The differing reviews strongly suggest that while they excel with "newer vehicles and diesels," their proficiency and attention to detail might not extend as consistently to "older vehicles" or those with gasoline engines and more classic systems like carburetors.

Promotional Information

Short Mountain Diesel, LLC's primary promotion seems to stem from its strong reputation within the diesel community, particularly for specific, demanding repairs.

  • Word-of-Mouth (Diesel Focus): The strong recommendation to "absolutely bring another 6.0 here to get studded by these guys" is the most potent form of promotion for their specialized diesel services. Satisfied customers in a niche market are invaluable. This is their strongest asset.

  • Expertise-Driven Marketing: By consistently delivering high-quality results on complex diesel repairs, they establish themselves as authorities in that field. This expertise inherently promotes their business to owners of similar vehicles.

  • Address and Contact: Providing their physical address and phone numbers (615-454-0999) makes them accessible to local customers seeking their specialized services. Given the nature of a diesel shop, many customers will find them through direct searches for specialized services.

In conclusion, Short Mountain Diesel, LLC is a highly specialized Auto Repair Station that demonstrates exceptional proficiency and provides great value for specific, complex diesel engine repairs, particularly for newer diesel vehicles and demanding tasks like headstud installations on Powerstroke engines. However, customers with older vehicles or those requiring general automotive repairs on gasoline engines should be aware that experiences can vary, and it may be prudent to inquire about their specific expertise for such vehicle types before committing to service. Their strongest recommendation lies in their dedicated and effective diesel service.

Short Mountain Diesel, LLC Customer Reviews

Brought my 6.0 excursion up there to get headstuds. Took them a little longer to get to it, but then again that’s any good diesel shop in the area. Once they got it in it was done that week. I’ve put 3000 miles on it since they finished it and my temps have never been this rock solid. 188° regardless of load or not. I will absolutely bring another 6.0 here to get studded by these guys. 10/10 great work at a fair price. Appreciate it!

Took my 1987 ford e350 club wagon to short mountain diesel for a list of things that I wanted checked out. To list a few I was wanting the engine timed and to make sure the plugs were in the correct firing order. That seems to be the only thing that was done correctly. Had to replace the plugs myself after I asked them to do that when I dropped it off. All were fouled beyond working order. While doing the plugs I found the connector between the distributor and wiring harness to be almost completely melted and fused together how that was missed I have no idea. Asked them to install the new ac compressor that I had already purchased and to leak test and recharge the system. The AC was blowing hot air the next day after I picked it up. I took the time to replace the o-rings that were leaking and then found that the rear expansion valve was completely stoped up from where the previous compressor blew and had to replace it and flush the system myself. After I recharged the system it all worked as it should. Except for the compressor being overly loud due to what I assume was from them running it with to high head pressure while trying to charge and fix it the first time due to the expansion valve in the rear being completely stopped up. I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure when you replace a compressor it’s procedure to flush the system may not be tho. I also had a problem where the fuel gauge and the oil pressure gauge were not working. They told me they tested everything and that the instrument cluster was the issue. After I got the vehicle back I replaced the instrument cluster myself and it did not fix the problem upon further investigation I found that the oil pressure sensor wire was loose in the connector to the sensor I replaced the said connector and it worked perfectly fine with old cluster and new cluster . Fuel gauge was same I went to sending unit crossed out the wires the gauge worked fine. Had them also adjust the carb which I had to re adjust about a week later due to one jet being completely closed and the other being 4 rotations past what it should be adjusted to. Over all just very disappointed in the service I payed 786.72 for essentially an engine timed and the firing order corrected because nothing else was fixed correctly. They may do great work on newer vehicles and diesels but overall I would not recommend them for older vehicles. Feel very ripped off.

I highly recommend this shop! These people are amazing at what they do, my f350 has been useless the last few days (completely my fault). I made a call to these people and they went out of their way to hook me up with a tow truck driver, and got me taken care of the same day! I bothered their amazing office lady with sooo many questions and she answered them no problem, very kindly, no matter how silly or frequent they were. Never felt like a burden! I will be taking all of my diesels to these guys from now on! Customer service is amazing here they definitely earned a lifetime customer!!!

Short Mountain diesel is the premier diesel garage. Nothing but friendly, kind, and observing to my needs. They are so nice and family oriented and they do great work. Would recommend them every day of the week.

Short Mountain Diesel , Hands down has been best auto service I have experienced. I have my own shop and fix just about everything myself. But having my 05 f350 6.0 overhauled with a very long list of performance goodies and getting it bullet proofed, I left it to the diesel pros. From the first minute I talked to Abigail on the phone, untill I picked up my truck I was treated like an old friend or family that you have known for ages. Everyone there is super cool and knows diesels. They were real with me, they guided me on the best performance parts and why, and they kept me from wasting my money on parts that were not needed for my power goals. The detail they put into my truck and taking the time to degrease, Paint and restore parts making them look and work like new is above and beyond. The truck is now reliable, and Im confident I can drive it anywhere. Doesnt hurt my truck sounds fantastic while having tire shredding torque and hoursepower, thats pretty fun too. Others have found out about Short Mountain Diesel like I have. If there is a wait, they are worth it. I wont go anywhere else. Wishing them a prosperous 2023
