Rick Nylund Transmissions focuses on a crucial component of your vehicle: the transmission. Recognizing that many transmission problems start small and worsen over time, the shop emphasizes the importance of addressing issues early to save customers significant money in the long run. Their services are designed to diagnose, maintain, and repair a wide range of transmission-related problems. While an exhaustive list of all services is not publicly available, their expertise lies in areas such as diagnosing slipping transmissions, addressing issues with specific parts like solenoids, and performing necessary replacements or rebuilds. The feedback from customers highlights their ability to accurately pinpoint the root cause of problems, even when a full transmission replacement might seem inevitable to the vehicle owner. This proactive and precise approach to diagnostics is a core aspect of their service offering. They aim to provide the most cost-effective and appropriate solution, rather than immediately jumping to the most expensive repair.

The defining characteristics of Rick Nylund Transmissions, as evidenced by customer testimonials, revolve around their honesty, expertise, and excellent communication. These are the pillars that build customer trust and loyalty. Here's a breakdown of their standout features:
Honest and Objective Diagnostics: A recurring theme in customer reviews is the shop's commitment to honesty. Instead of recommending a full transmission replacement outright, they prioritize thorough inspection and accurate diagnosis. One customer vividly recounted a situation where Rick Nylund suggested a cheaper solenoid fix for an older Ford Ranger, even when the customer was prepared for a full transmission replacement. This approach saved the customer thousands of dollars and demonstrated the shop's integrity. This objective assessment of the vehicle's needs sets them apart, fostering a sense of trust that is invaluable in the automotive repair industry.
Expert Knowledge and Problem-Solving: The mechanics at Rick Nylund Transmissions possess a deep understanding of transmission systems across various vehicle makes and models. Their ability to identify specific, less common issues, such as solenoid problems in certain Ford Ranger models, showcases their specialized expertise. They don't just fix symptoms; they identify and resolve the underlying cause, ensuring long-lasting repairs. This high level of technical proficiency contributes significantly to customer confidence and satisfaction.
Effective Communication: Customers consistently praise the shop's communication throughout the repair process. Being kept informed about the diagnosis, the repair options, the estimated costs, and the progress of the work is a critical factor in a positive auto repair experience. This transparency helps alleviate customer anxiety and builds strong relationships. The example of the customer being informed that no charge would be levied for the inspection if a transmission replacement was indeed necessary, provided they proceeded with the replacement at the shop, further illustrates their clear and fair communication practices.
Timeliness of Service: Getting a vehicle back quickly is often a top priority for car owners. Reviews indicate that Rick Nylund Transmissions strives for efficient turnaround times. One customer noted getting their truck back in "just a couple days," which is impressive for a complex repair like a transmission issue. This efficiency minimizes inconvenience for customers and gets them back on the road sooner.
Reliable and Lasting Repairs: The ultimate test of any auto repair is the longevity and effectiveness of the fix. Customers have reported that repairs performed by Rick Nylund Transmissions hold up over time and many miles. The Ford Ranger owner, for instance, reported 15,000 miles and three trips to Florida with the transmission still shifting like new, emphasizing the quality and durability of the work performed.

The testimonials act as a form of word-of-mouth marketing, highlighting the value and integrity the shop provides. The willingness to try cheaper options first, as mentioned by a customer, inherently offers a financial benefit that many would consider a significant advantage. This commitment to customer financial well-being, coupled with high-quality work, effectively promotes their services to potential clients looking for reliable and trustworthy transmission repair. Their customer-centric approach, where they prioritize the most economical and effective solution for the client, naturally attracts and retains business, positioning them as a highly recommended service provider in the Wausau area.

They did a great job on both of our vehicles. With my car, they tried the cheaper of the two options first for me since my extended warranty wouldn't cover the problem. It is still running with no problem. Replaced my husband's transmission also. Great at communicating with you through the process. Would highly recommend.

I took my older ford ranger in to Rick because of a slipping transmission fully expecting to have to have the transmission replaced. He said that in his experience with this era of ranger they had an issue with the solenoid. I was skeptical pretty much saying maybe it’s best to just change the transmission rather than go through all that work and money to take it apart and inspect it just to find out I need a transmission anyway. He said if that was the case he wouldn’t charge anything for doing the inspection as long as I had them put the transmission in if that’s really what it needed. Well turns out he was absolutely right. He replaced a couple parts with more reliable parts and cleaned it up. It literally cost me a few hundred dollars when I was looking at thousands for a rebuilt transmission. I also had my truck back in just a couple days. He probably would’ve made more money putting in a transmission but I believe this shows his honesty and knowledge. Several months later, 15,000 miles with 3 trips back and forth to Florida and it continues to shift like new. I would highly recommend Nylund.

EDIT (RICK HAS BEEN CAREFUL TO SAY THAT HE PUT IN A NEW PUMP BUSHING AS I TOLD HIM WHAT PART FAILED ON HIS REBUILD WHEN WE SPOKE ON THE PHONE. I PROBABLY SHOULD NOT HAVE TOLD HIM AS THIS IS GOING TO COURT AND HE WILL TRY TO PROTECT HIMSELF BY SAYING HE PUT IN A NEW ONE. I'M GLAD YOU HAD A GOOD TALK WITH CHARLIE. PERHAPS YOU LEARNED SOMETHING. AS I STATED, THIS IS NOT OVER YET.) (ORIGINAL) Rick rebuilt a TH350 for my personal collector car. The transmission failed within the 1st 10 miles. It was never repaired correctly. I spoke to Rick's man Mike who confirmed that, in fact, Rick had done the rebuild himself. Rick immediately stated to our Service Manager that we must have installed his rebuild incorrectly. Between myself, our lead technician, and the manager of our shop we have almost 100 combined years of working on cars. We did not install it incorrectly. As this car is stored 1200+ miles from Wausau, we could not take a chance on having Rick repair the transmission again. It had to be done right. We removed the transmission and took it to a well known shop in Germantown. The owner of the shop took the transmission apart and soon realized what had caused the failure. He said that he is sure that Rick had the best of intentions, but it appeared as though he didn't know what he was doing and wondered if he had tested the transmission before returning it. He had installed a shift kit and had done a general overhaul but had failed to replace the necessary pump bushing and other parts required to support what he was trying to accomplish. I phoned Rick and told that I didn't need all of the money back and was open to his suggestion for a fair resolution. He told me I should have called him immediately upon failure so he could have looked at it. Understand that this vehicle is a very valuable collector car. After my experience with his transmission work, I had no faith in him touching this vehicle much less a belief that he could repair it so that it could be trusted 1200 miles away. Rick charged $1800+ dollars for his faulty repair and I had the transmission properly repaired for $1105. The transmission is now rock solid and the vehicle drives awesome. I wanted to warn any possible customers of how Rick operates. We shall see how this settles in the future, but I wouldn't go here folks.

My U-joint blew and took out my transmission. All sorts of problems. Rick and team worked with my warranty company and replaced it all. Car runs great now. They were communicative and professional throughout. Only place in Wausau to get complicated transmission work done

I left my 09 Malibu there on a Sunday, and it was done 2 Mondays later. Very fast, worked on the price to make the job done properly and affordable for me, and just absolutely easy to talk to. I'm a mechanic myself, but I wouldn't take my transmission work anywhere else in the area, or maybe even anywhere. Thank you Nylund, you're the best.
