terrible service, let my truck sit all day without doing a thing to it. called them yesterday saying it needed an oil change and took it this morning, got there this afternoon to pick it up and it had sat all day. workers claim they didn’t know what to do with it all day, instead of simply calling me to ask what needed to be done again. rude! when i asked why they didn’t just give a call, they acted like they didn’t care. will never be back, do not recommend. any way i can give 1/4 of a star??

I had been struggling with a different mechanic for quite a while to figure out why my check engine light was on. My brother recommended bringing it to Porter's, and they found the issue pretty much immediatley. Not only that, but when they found the issue, the person I spoke with actually brought me back to where my car was, and showed me exactly where the issue was, which felt very honest of him to do. Now I have my car back, and it's running better than it ever has. Definitely coming here from now on! :D

Went in for tires and an alignment. Upon picking up my vehicle they told me a strut was bent. Doesn't surprise me as the rim at that location had a bend as well. Good ol SC potholes... They attempted to align it the best they could. Instead of charging me full price for said alignment they charged me less than half because they couldn't fully align it due to the bent strut. Honesty. That's what I look for in a great mechanic. Great experience!!

My daughter is a student at Clemson University and had to drive to Pickens this afternoon because she wanted to register to vote. When she was going back to Clemson late this afternoon, warning lights came on in her car because the coolant was low and the engine was too hot. I am in California and could not help much when she called. I found Porter Brothers Automotive by doing a Google search of the area she was in and I sent her there because of their positive Google reviews. I can't thank these guys enough for dropping everything to take care of my daughter as they approached closing time. They spent at least 45 minutes on her car, checking the system for serious issues and replaced the coolant. I won't say how much they charged her because it was ridiculously too low. We owe this guys and they put some really good Karma in the bank today.

This will be a long review. Let me start out by saying I have used this shop for my auto repairs for about 5 years and have been pleased enough with their service that I continued to use them as well as recommend them to my friends. My last visit changed all this. I took an older Chrysler in because I was losing coolant and it was slightly overheating. They kept the vehicle for 2 days, couldn’t find a leak. The engine was cleaned, radiator flushed and new coolant installed -$65.00. Reasonable cost, and since they didn’t find any leakage I just figured the flushing and new coolant would take care of the problem. A few days later the car overheats while the wife is driving it and she has to let it cool down and purchase more coolant and add it to the car so she can get it back home. I take the car back in on Monday and let Porter Brothers know there is definitely a leak and leave it for them to check out again. I wait till Wednesday evening to call and check the progress and am told that they see leakage from the thermostat housing, and they were waiting on the parts, but it could also be the water pump. I tell them to go ahead and replace both, the person on the phone suggested I just do the thermostat housing first since the water pump was very expensive, he didn’t say how expensive though, so I ok’ed just the thermostat replacement. I checked back Thursday evening and was told they hadn’t replaced the thermostat housing yet. Now this is 4 days in the shop so I did question why it was taking so long and reminded them that the vehicle had been there since Monday and they agreed to get it done on Friday. Friday Porter Brothers calls me to let me know the thermostat had been replaced but the leak was still present so I would need to replace the water pump. Ok, here’s the part where I kind of got bent out of shape about the whole ordeal…..they wanted $1150.00 to replace the water pump and charged me $271.00 to replace the thermostat! I did research the water pump replacement for this particular vehicle and it is a big job compared to most cars. I called 4 other shops in my area and got quotes of $500 to $600 for this job so I know it is expensive. When I went in to pick up my car I asked why they were charging me $1150.00 for a job every other shop in the area would do for half the price. I didn’t get an answer except that job took 10 hours so it was expensive. They charged me $180.00 labor for the 3 hours on the thermostat so I know they charge $60.00 per hour. Ten hours of labor is $600.00 – so I guess the water pump costs around $550.00 then. I paid the $271.00 for the thermostat, told them I had been happy with their service up till now but I would be searching for a new auto repair shop. Traveled down the road a few miles, paid $585.00 to get the water pump replaced.
