Nishikawa Auto Service

I’ve been coming here for several years. It is a great shop that will never try to sell you something you don’t need. Star Mazda in Glendale told me I needed new brakes a year after I bought a “Certified” Used Car from them. Fortunately, I brought it to Joe to do the work during my next oil change. He told me the brakes were fine. I ended up using those same brakes another 5 years! Nishikawa is very resourceful in finding aftermarket or junkyard parts to keep older vehicles running smoothly without having to resort to outrageously priced OEM stuff. The place keeps very busy, as their prices are reasonable for great work.

I know there are a lot of high reviews on here. They are honest mechanics in that they usually do what they say they will do. That is A very low bar in my opinion especially because their customer service is so bad. They claim to be in business for 50 plus years even though ownership has changed several times since then. They act like they are doing you a favor by working on your car. They are more old school mechanics, so anything dealing with the computer or electronics is out of there wheel house. They will take your car in such cases and then hang on to it for several days before they admit they do not have the expertise. They are rude and will not go out of there way for you in any way. They charge significantly more than any other place. They are ok, but expensive and rude. I personally would keep looking for a better deal and a better mechanic that appreciates their customers.

Toyota of Pasadena quoted $175 for a minor service for my 2014 Prius with 65k miles. Joe quoted $68 for the same exact work. Very knowledgeable and friendly. My new go-to mechanic! Update 5/2023: Joe and his crew are still amazing! A tried and true shop.

I would say from the bottom of my heart that as long as there are honest people like Joe, this world is worth living in. It was more than a car repair done well and on time. It was an eye-opening experience. At the times when one can expect, all too often correctly, to be overcharged at any opportunity (and this time I was in a situation in which I could be overcharged at will), I met the professional of yesteryear - honest, friendly, dependable, human. Thank you, Joe! I recommend this business to you wholeheartedly and with no reservations whatsoever.

Great auto service shop in and around Pasadena. I've taken my cars for different types of service and repair and Joe has always been able to find the problem and fix it for a fair and reasonable price. This has been my go-to auto service shop for some time. Highly recommended.
