In early May (5/4), we took our van to Lafontaine Clinton to repair a blown transmission. When speaking to the rep, we also asked for them to take a look at the air conditioning system while they were evaluating the car. The initial inspection was scheduled for Thurs (5/5) at noon). We contacted in the evening of 5/5 and were informed that there were no updates and the tech would "do his best" to get it diagnosed tomorrow (5/6). We received a message on 5/6 from Lafontaine stating that the transmission would need to be replaced, as expected. The initial report mentioned nothing of the air conditioning, so we inquired about that service that we had requested. Lafontaine informed us we would be required to pay for another diagnostics test because their focus was the transmission. We declined a second diagnostic check and told them we would move forward with the transmission replacement but would go elsewhere for better customer service for the air conditioning. At that point, Lafontaine told us they did not want us to think we were receiving poor customer service, so they would check the air conditioning (like they were supposed to do in the first place) at no additional cost. From there, the transmission replacement was quite an ordeal. Understanding that the supply chain has caused shortages and had made it more challenging to acquire parts, we expected the process to take a bit longer than normal. However, it was not until early June that we finally received word that Lafontaine had finished the repair. On 5/9, we contacted for updates and were informed that a tech was out sick, so they would send us an update as soon as they could. We received no updates until the following day (5/10), when we contacted again. We were informed that the technician was in and checking out the car and would start installation that week. Three days later (5/13), we again contacted for updates and were informed that the technician was out and would have to begin work the following Monday. On the Mon (5/16), we contacted without response. On Tues (5/17), we contacted and Lafontaine informed us that the parts they received for the repair were faulty so they would need to order new parts. This was no problem and we appreciated that they took the time to check the parts before completing the repair. We did, however, inquire what a timeframe would look like for the fix and were informed that the parts would take a few days to arrive and the installation should be finished by the first of the following week (Mon, 5/23). A week passed with no communication. On Tues, 5/24, we contacted to check on the progress of the repair and were informed that the repair could not be fixed because the tech was out sick again. On Wed, 5/25 we were informed the tech was still out sick, so the repair was on hold. We contacted on 5/26 asking for an update and received no response. We waited until the following Tues, 5/31 to ask about the repair and again received no response. On 6/1, we were told that tech was back working on the vehicle and it should be completed that afternoon. Finally, on 6/2, the repair was completed nearly a month after we took it for service. We understand unexpected circumstances, but at no point did Lafontaine take the initiative to communicate with us or take any action to improvise and get the job taken care of. They were content to kick the can down the road. It was clear that our repair was an afterthought that Lafontaine would take care of whenever it was most convenient to them. Their lack of communication and initiative in this process was thoroughly disappointing. I'd strongly recommend you take your vehicles elsewhere for service.
