Mobil Introduce

Located at 1500 Haslett Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823, USA, the establishment operating under the familiar Mobil brand name is more accurately known as H&H Mobil Fuels, Towing & Service. This location functions as a multi-faceted entity within the Auto Repair Stations category, aiming to serve the East Lansing community with fuel, convenience store offerings, comprehensive auto repair, and 24-hour towing and roadside assistance. While it carries the recognizable Mobil brand, its local identity as H&H Mobil is paramount to understanding its operations and reputation.

The environment at H&H Mobil presents a dual nature, reflecting its diverse services. As a Mobil gas station, it offers the typical convenience of fuel pumps and a small retail space for quick purchases. For its auto repair and towing operations, the physical environment would likely include a service bay area for vehicle maintenance and repair, and potentially a lot for towed or impounded vehicles. Online reviews for its general auto repair services often describe the staff as "efficient and friendly," "polite and patient," and highlight a commitment to customer service and professionalism. This suggests a welcoming and organized environment for those seeking routine maintenance or scheduled repairs. However, the environment associated with its towing and impound services is viewed very differently by a segment of the public, as highlighted by numerous negative reviews. For individuals whose vehicles have been towed, the experience is often characterized by feelings of frustration and being exploited, leading to a perception of a less accommodating or even "seedy" environment, particularly when dealing with unexpected and high charges. The facility itself, regardless of the service, would maintain a functional and industry-standard appearance, consistent with a combined gas station and auto service center.

H&H Mobil offers a broad spectrum of services, encompassing both routine automotive maintenance and specialized towing operations. As a comprehensive auto repair station, their services include:

  • General Auto Repair: From basic vehicle inspections to more complex diagnostics, they aim to address a wide range of automotive issues.
  • Brake Repair: Specializing in evaluating, repairing, and replacing brake components to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Muffler and Exhaust System Repair: Services for maintaining the vehicle's exhaust system, crucial for emissions control and noise reduction.
  • Battery Replacement: Testing and replacement of vehicle batteries to ensure reliable starting.
  • Starter Repair: Diagnosis and repair of issues related to the car's starter system.
  • Oil Changes: Routine preventative maintenance for engine longevity.
  • Fluid Checks and Replacements: Ensuring all essential vehicle fluids are at optimal levels and in good condition.
  • Towing and Roadside Assistance: This is a significant part of their operation, offering 24-hour towing services. This includes emergency towing, accident recovery, and, notably, private property impounds. They are often contracted by local authorities or private entities for vehicle removal.

Their website states a focus on "state of the art tools, equipment, and training to keep up with today's most complicated vehicle management systems," suggesting an investment in modern automotive technology for repair work.

The features of H&H Mobil are diverse, reflecting its varied business model. On the auto repair side, features include a staff described as "experienced, ASE-certified" and "student friendly mechanics," indicating a commitment to quality repair work and understanding the local demographic. They emphasize "honest advice and practical solutions" for vehicle repairs. For their towing services, a key feature is their **24-hour availability**, providing assistance at any time of day or night. They operate "sparkling clean and well equipped tow trucks," aiming for professionalism in their towing operations. As a Mobil station, they also offer the convenience of fuel sales and associated convenience store items. They proudly state they have been "Owned & Operated Since 1969," signifying a long-standing presence in the community.

However, the reputation and perceived features related to their towing services present a stark contrast to the positive aspects of their general auto repair. Numerous customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding their towing practices, particularly concerning **exorbitant fees** and a perceived lack of transparency or ethical considerations. Customers report being charged extremely high amounts (e.g., $400 for short-distance tows, or even higher for storage) even for cars towed only a few minutes down the road or for being held for only a few hours. The phrase "absolute robbery" and "scam artists" frequently appears in these reviews. There are complaints of "inconvenience fees" and situations where cars were towed from "giant lots with no visible signs." This suggests that while they offer a necessary service, the execution of their towing and impound operations, particularly regarding pricing and communication, has led to a highly negative public perception among affected individuals. It is crucial for local users to be aware of this dichotomy in their service reputation. While some customers praise the efficiency and professionalism of their towing service for straightforward roadside assistance, others who have experienced their impound services feel severely aggrieved by the cost and perceived lack of fairness.

Regarding promotional information, H&H Mobil utilizes its long-standing presence in the community and its affiliation with the Mobil brand. Their website and local listings highlight their "24 HOUR Towing & Roadside Assistance" and often feature positive reviews for their mechanical repair services. They have been known to offer promotions such as "$50 Off Timing Belt Replacement" as seen on their website, encouraging customers for scheduled maintenance. The company also states that "Service is the Difference" and emphasizes being "your neighbors, your friends, and members of your community," attempting to build a connection and trust with local users. For towing, their primary "promotion" is their availability as a contracted service for police departments and private property owners, which, while ensuring business, is also the source of the negative feedback regarding their pricing structure. Potential customers are advised to contact them directly for specific pricing on towing and impound services, as rates can vary significantly and are a major point of contention in public feedback. The phone numbers (517) 332-6335 and +1 517-332-6335 are provided for inquiries across their services.

Mobil Customer Reviews

Scammers. Many, many "inconvenience" fees. Absolute extortion at its finest. Tow a car 5 minutes down the road and charge 400 bucks? Then hold it for only a few hours but charge for the full day? Absurd. You have no shame and the BBB will hear about you. I'm sure it's not the first time. I understand towing fees. I do not understand 400 dollars for towing a car a mile down the road. What a rip-off. Scam artists. I expect nothing less from a seedy little joint like yours. God forbid a car be parked three hours in a giant lot, with no visible signs mind you, while I visit someone after driving them somewhere. No good deed goes unpunished. Have fun with your little midnight drives. Much thanks for your contributions to this city. Your "business" is a blight on society.

The police had my car towed. They used this company. It was around 2-3am. I picked the car up at 6:30 am. This placed charged me $400. It was likely less than a 2 mile tow from Hagadorn Road. It would have been $80 with my AAA. Absolute robbery. Just because you CAN charge something absurd doesn’t mean you should. I live locally and will never use their services due to their lack of ethics.

My car was towed there without my permission by my apartment manager. The one person working seemed way to busy. Could not give me info on who signed for towing. Rates seemed excessive ($376 for 3.2 miles and 4 hours of storage time). Fees not posted inside as required. My car was not damaged, yay

Beware they have been scamming people for years and get away with it and they count on you not being able to pay towing fees to make a huge profit $1400 for 3 min towing.
