Livingston's Service Center Inc Introduce
For drivers in Newberry, SC, Livingston's Service Center Inc at 1525 Main St, Newberry, SC 29108, USA, serves a dual role: it operates as both a gas station and an "Auto Repair Station." This combination offers convenience for local users who may need to refuel their vehicles and address automotive issues at the same location. The center is accessible via phone at (803) 276-4606 or mobile at +1 803-276-4606, providing direct lines for fuel service inquiries or scheduling repair work.
As an "Auto Repair Station," Livingston's Service Center Inc offers a range of services designed to keep vehicles operational, from routine maintenance to addressing unexpected breakdowns. The fact that they are also a gas station implies immediate access to fuel and perhaps basic convenience store items, adding another layer of utility for passersby and regular customers.
The environment at Livingston's Service Center Inc, like many combined gas station and repair shops, is likely functional and focused on practical service. The customer experience, however, appears to be profoundly mixed, as revealed by detailed testimonials. This suggests that while the facility aims to provide comprehensive care, the consistency of that care can vary significantly.
One customer expressed extreme dissatisfaction, citing "$1100 spent, three hours wasted, and headache I didn't want or need." This individual's ordeal began with an oil leak fix that required two trips. More alarmingly, after the oil leak was supposedly fixed, the "back brakes locked up while driving," leading to "smoke" and an "unsafe vehicle." Despite returning for the brake issue, and requesting additional maintenance, the problem recurred, almost causing an accident. The core issue, according to the customer, was the shop's diagnostic process, which involved only "five minutes at most" of test driving, failing to detect problems that only manifest after the car warms up. This review paints a picture of a potentially dangerous situation stemming from inadequate diagnostics and a lack of thoroughness, leading to significant financial and safety concerns.
In stark contrast, another customer shared an overwhelmingly positive, almost life-saving experience. Passing through town with a broken serpentine belt, leading to power steering, AC failure, and overheating, they were feeling "hopeless" after calling multiple unresponsive shops. However, "The Livingston’s crew was fast, knowledgeable, and friendly. Service was 10 out of 10. Thank you for making a frustrating situation quick and painless!" This review highlights a highly competent and responsive team capable of providing critical emergency repairs with exceptional speed and expertise, demonstrating a high level of customer care in urgent situations.
This dichotomy in customer feedback suggests that while the center is capable of excellent, even life-saving service in certain scenarios, there may be inconsistencies in their diagnostic approach or quality control for more complex, intermittent issues.
As a combined gas station and "Auto Repair Station," Livingston's Service Center Inc offers a range of services and goods:
- Fuel Sales: As a gas station, they provide various grades of gasoline for vehicle refueling.
- Emergency Roadside Assistance / Towing (Implied): The positive review for an emergency serpentine belt repair suggests they are equipped to handle urgent mechanical failures, possibly including or coordinating towing services.
- General Auto Repair and Maintenance: The range of work described includes:
- Oil Leak Repair: A service mentioned in the negative review, indicating their capability to address fluid leaks.
- Brake Service: Both the negative and positive reviews touch upon brake-related issues, suggesting they offer brake inspection, diagnosis, and repair services.
- Fluid Flushes: The customer requested transmission fluid and coolant flushes, indicating these services are typically available.
- Serpentine Belt Replacement: A quick and successful emergency repair, demonstrating their ability to handle common belt and pulley issues.
- General Diagnostics: They perform diagnostic checks, although the depth and duration of these checks are a point of contention in one review.
- Vehicle Inspections: While not explicitly stated, general auto repair shops often perform state-mandated inspections or safety checks.
The "goods for sale" primarily include fuel at the gas station component. Within the "Auto Repair Stations" segment, they would utilize and potentially sell various auto parts necessary for their repair services, such as belts, hoses, brake components, and fluids, though a broad "auto parts store" inventory for direct consumer purchase might be limited compared to specialized parts retailers.
Key features and operational aspects of Livingston's Service Center Inc, drawn from the provided information, include:
- Dual Functionality: The combination of a gas station and a full-service auto repair bay offers significant convenience, especially for local residents or travelers who need both fuel and immediate mechanical attention.
- Emergency Responsiveness: Their ability to respond quickly and effectively to critical roadside emergencies (like the serpentine belt issue) is a standout feature and a testament to their readiness for urgent situations.
- Knowledgeable and Friendly Staff (Variable): The positive review praises "fast, knowledgeable, and friendly" staff, indicating that capable and courteous personnel are present. However, the negative review suggests that the application of knowledge or communication might be inconsistent, particularly regarding diagnostic procedures.
- Diagnostic Approach (A Point of Concern): The "five minutes at most" test drive for diagnostics highlighted by one customer is a critical feature that, if consistently applied, could lead to missed intermittent issues. This suggests a potential limitation in their diagnostic thoroughness for problems that require extended observation under driving conditions.
- Focus on Solutions: In the positive instance, they provided a quick and definitive solution to a dire problem, demonstrating their problem-solving capability in high-pressure scenarios.
Explicit promotional offers are not detailed. However, the most significant "promotion" for Livingston's Service Center Inc comes from direct customer testimonials, which present a complex narrative:
- Strong Word-of-Mouth (Positive): The "10 out of 10" recommendation for emergency services is a powerful endorsement. This kind of life-saving assistance generates immense goodwill and positive word-of-mouth, attracting customers specifically in urgent need of reliable help. The appreciation for being "fast, knowledgeable, and friendly" highlights traits that naturally draw customers.
- Strong Word-of-Mouth (Negative): Conversely, the deeply negative experience, especially involving safety issues and significant financial expenditure without resolution, generates extremely damaging word-of-mouth. The customer's strong recommendation to "go somewhere else if it's anymore than a parts change" and the mention of potential legal action serve as a severe deterrent.
The primary form of promotion for this service center is likely its long-standing presence in Newberry and its visibility as a gas station. For an "Auto Repair Station" like this, consistent, high-quality, and transparent service across all types of repairs would be the most effective promotional strategy to ensure consistently positive customer experiences. The stark contrast in reviews suggests that while they excel in rapid, on-the-spot emergency fixes, more complex or intermittent problems may require a different diagnostic approach to ensure consistent customer satisfaction and safety.

$1100 spent, three hours wasted, and headache I didn't want or need. I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6 motor. I came in for what I thought to be a simple oil leak. Unfortunately, it took two trips back and forth for them to get that oil leak fixed. About 20 minutes after getting my car back for the oil leak fix, and driving around to test the oil fix, the back brakes locked up while driving. My car was surrounded in smoke and was practically immobile after driving for more than 15 or so minutes. It was an unsafe vehicle to drive for any stretch of road at that point in my opinion. I then called up there to see if they could fix the locked up brakes, that somehow weren't an issue before they worked on my oil leak, and they said sure. I also asked about getting the transmission fluid and coolant flushed as to avoid a failure in any other systems, just wanting to do some maintenance and upkeep since it's a 20 year old vehicle. I figured, why not get other stuff checked and looked at since it's already in the shop? I wanted to do my due diligence in taking care of my car. Roughly two weeks later, I got my car back and was told the brakes were not an issue upon their inspection and a test drive. Suspicious of their tests and inspections, I took my car for my own test drive around Newberry. Roughly 20 Minutes after driving, my brakes locked up-- again. This time, it was worse for me, I almost ended up in a ditch on 121 because of how severely my car stopped/pulled due to the brake lock up. I called them to figure out what the issue was. I was told they only test drive the vehicles for five minutes at most in their diagnostic process. I'm no mechanic, but I know that sometimes vehicle issues take more than five minutes to pop up as the car needs to get warmed up-- Clearly, this is a dangerous shop and will likely get the pants sued off of them at some point. You'd be best served to go somewhere else if it's anymore than a parts change.

We are so grateful to Keith and his team for coming to our rescue today! We were passing through town and our serpentine belt broke, causing our power steering and AC to fail. Our car was overheating to the point of explosion. We were feeling hopeless after calling multiple shops that were either closed or simply not answering the phone until we found this service center. The Livingston’s crew was fast, knowledgeable, and friendly. Service was 10 out of 10. Thank you for making a frustrating situation quick and painless!

Took my car because I was having issues with the a/c not working. I asked if they could look at it for me and the first time I took it they said it was no issue and only refilled the a/c refrigeration. Still not working, I took it back and had them look at it again and then the second time they said it was the evaporator core and they couldn’t fix it. Took it somewhere else and turns out it wasn’t even the evaporator core, it was a busted hose. They clearly have trouble finding issues with the car themselves. Not worth wasting time there.
