Jim Blount's Auto Salvage Introduce

For those in Plymouth, Indiana, and the surrounding areas seeking affordable and reliable used auto parts, Jim Blount's Auto Salvage stands as a key resource. Located at 13830 US-6, Plymouth, IN 46563, USA, this establishment operates as a dedicated "Auto Repair Station" within the broader sense of providing essential components for vehicle maintenance and repair. You can reach them by phone at (574) 784-2111 or via mobile at +1 574-784-2111.

While categorized as an "Auto Repair Station," Jim Blount's Auto Salvage primarily functions as an auto parts store and salvage yard. This means their core service revolves around the sale of used vehicle components, offering a cost-effective alternative to new parts for a variety of makes and models. This kind of facility is invaluable for DIY mechanics, small repair shops, or anyone looking to save money on vehicle upkeep.

Environment and Operations

As a salvage yard, the environment at Jim Blount's Auto Salvage is characteristic of such operations. You can expect a sprawling outdoor area filled with numerous vehicles that have reached the end of their road life. These vehicles are organized, to some extent, to allow for easier access to parts. The atmosphere is generally practical and hands-on, catering to individuals who are prepared to navigate the yard to find what they need. It's a place where functionality and accessibility of parts take precedence, offering a raw, authentic experience for those accustomed to finding their own components.

One of the notable features of Jim Blount's Auto Salvage, highlighted by customer reviews, is the option for customers to pull their own parts. This "U-Pull-It" or "Self-Service" model is a significant aspect of their operation. It means customers can enter the yard, locate the vehicle they need parts from, and personally remove the desired components. This approach often translates to lower prices, as it reduces labor costs for the salvage yard. It also empowers customers who possess the necessary tools and mechanical aptitude to precisely select the parts they require.

Services and Goods for Sale

Jim Blount's Auto Salvage primarily offers a vast inventory of used auto parts. While specific daily inventory fluctuates based on the vehicles they acquire, a typical salvage yard provides a wide array of components from various vehicle systems. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Engine Components: Cylinder heads, alternators, starters, manifolds, and other engine accessories.
  • Transmission Components: Used transmissions and related parts.
  • Body Panels: Doors, fenders, hoods, trunks, and bumpers.
  • Interior Parts: Seats, dashboards, steering wheels, and various trim pieces.
  • Electrical Components: Wiring harnesses, control modules, relays, and switches.
  • Suspension and Steering Parts: Shocks, struts, control arms, and steering racks.
  • Braking System Parts: Calipers, rotors, master cylinders, and brake lines.
  • Glass: Windshields, side windows, and rear windows.
  • Wheels and Tires: A selection of used rims and tires.
  • Miscellaneous Parts: Such as fuel pumps, radiators, condensers, and more.

The price list available online indicates that engines and transmissions are individually priced, typically coming from auction vehicles with an average of 130k to 150k miles. Engines start at $200+, and transmissions start at $150+, with prices varying based on condition. Wheels and tires are also individually priced, with steel rims starting at $20+, aluminum rims at $20+, and tires at $10+. Smaller miscellaneous parts like alternators, radiators, and starters are also priced affordably, often with a core exchange program.

It's important to note that all parts sold typically come with a 45-day warranty, which starts on the day the receipt is written. This provides a level of assurance for customers purchasing used components.

  • Organized Inventory (to an extent): While it's a salvage yard, the feedback that the "place is organized ok" suggests an effort to maintain a somewhat structured layout, making it easier for customers to navigate and find parts.
  • No Charge to Enter the Yard: This is a significant advantage, allowing customers to browse the inventory without an initial financial commitment.
