Jasper Engines & Transmissions Introduce

Jasper Engines & Transmissions operates not as a direct "Auto Repair Station" that performs routine maintenance on individual vehicles, but rather as a leading manufacturer and supplier of remanufactured drivetrain components. Established in 1942 and based in Jasper, Indiana, Jasper Engines & Transmissions has grown to become the nation's largest remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, and other essential powertrain components. While they don't have public-facing repair bays for end-users, their critical role within the "Auto Repair Stations" platform category is as a foundational supplier. They provide high-quality, warrantied replacement components to thousands of independent repair shops, dealerships, and even fleet operators across the United States. This business model ensures that when a vehicle needs a major component replacement, the local repair shop has access to a reliable and often more economical solution than a brand-new part or a risky used one.

Environment and Operational Philosophy

The "environment" of Jasper Engines & Transmissions is primarily industrial and manufacturing-focused, centered around its extensive remanufacturing facilities located primarily in Jasper and Crawford County, Indiana, and Willow Springs, Missouri. These facilities are cutting-edge, employing advanced machinery and meticulous processes to disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble automotive components to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications. The company prides itself on a culture of continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.

What truly defines Jasper's environment and operational philosophy is their commitment to remanufacturing as a form of recycling. They are strong advocates for environmental responsibility, significantly reducing waste and conserving resources by giving new life to used automotive components. Their processes involve environmentally friendly cleaning methods, reduction of ozone-depleting vapors, and replacement of solvent-based paints with water-based versions. This sustainable approach is a core part of their identity, contributing to a "green" economy by providing a reliable and eco-conscious alternative to buying new.

While customers don't typically visit a "Jasper Engines & Transmissions" location for direct vehicle repair, their products are distributed through a vast network of 52 branch and distributor locations nationwide, ensuring efficient delivery to their installing partners. The ultimate customer experience is therefore delivered by the local "Auto Repair Station" that installs a Jasper product, backed by Jasper's robust quality control and warranty.

Comprehensive Products and Services (Goods for Sale)

Their core product lines include:

  • Transmissions: A complete line of remanufactured automatic and standard transmissions for both domestic and import cars and trucks. These undergo full disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and replacement of wear parts, followed by dynamometer testing to ensure proper shifting and hydraulic integrity.

  • Differentials: Remanufactured differential assemblies for cars, trucks, and heavy-duty applications, ensuring proper power transfer to the wheels.

  • Transfer Cases: For 4WD and AWD vehicles, Jasper remanufactures transfer cases.

  • Electric Motors: While less emphasized, they also remanufacture certain types of electric motors.

Each product is subjected to a meticulous remanufacturing process that includes:

  • Complete disassembly and thorough cleaning.

  • Detailed inspection of all components.

  • Replacement of wear parts with new or remanufactured parts to strict specifications.

  • Precision machining and reassembly.

  • Rigorous testing (e.g., dyno testing for engines and transmissions) to ensure performance and reliability.

Key Features and Strengths

Jasper Engines & Transmissions' leadership in the remanufacturing industry stems from several core strengths:

  • Unmatched Quality and Reliability: Their "Do It Right" philosophy and rigorous remanufacturing process ensure that products meet or exceed OEM standards, providing reliability similar to or better than new components.

  • Industry-Leading Warranty: A standout feature is their comprehensive 3-year / 100,000-mile nationwide parts and labor warranty for most gas engines, transmissions, and differentials. This transferable warranty is honored at over 10,000 locations nationwide, providing immense peace of mind to both installers and end-users. Extended warranty options, such as a Premium Service Plan, may also be available for additional coverage like towing and fluid allowances.

  • Environmental Sustainability: Their remanufacturing process is inherently eco-friendly, significantly reducing the energy consumption and raw material extraction associated with new component manufacturing. Choosing a Jasper product contributes to a circular economy and reduced environmental impact.

  • Extensive Product Range: The sheer breadth of their product line ensures that a compatible remanufactured component is often available for a vast array of vehicle makes, models, and applications.

  • Cost-Effectiveness: A remanufactured Jasper product typically offers significant cost savings compared to purchasing a brand-new OEM component, making it an attractive option for consumers and businesses alike, while still delivering high performance and a strong warranty.

  • Associate Ownership: Jasper Engines & Transmissions is a 100% Associate-Owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This fosters a strong sense of pride, commitment, and quality among its workforce, directly impacting product excellence and customer satisfaction.

  • Nationwide Distribution: A robust network of branch locations and distribution centers ensures quick and efficient delivery of products to installers across the country, minimizing vehicle downtime.

Promotional Information

Jasper Engines & Transmissions' promotional efforts primarily target their network of installers and ultimately educate end-users on the benefits of choosing remanufactured products. Their key promotional messages include:

  • "Remanufacturing is Recycling": A strong emphasis on their environmental benefits, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers and businesses.

  • "The Best Choice for Your Vehicle": Positioning their products as a superior alternative to used or even some rebuilt components, highlighting quality, reliability, and the comprehensive warranty.

  • 3-Year / 100,000-Mile Nationwide Warranty: This is a cornerstone of their promotional strategy, underscoring the confidence they have in their products and providing a significant competitive advantage over salvage yard parts or less reputable rebuilders.

  • Cost Savings: While not always explicitly advertised with specific dollar amounts due to varying installation costs, the inherent cost-effectiveness compared to new OEM parts is a strong underlying promotional theme.

  • Find an Installer Tool: Their website, JasperEngines.com, features a prominent "Find An Installer" tool, which helps end-users locate local "Auto Repair Stations" that proudly install Jasper products. This guides customers to reputable shops that trust and utilize Jasper's quality components.

  • Educational Resources: They provide extensive online resources, including videos and articles, explaining the remanufacturing process, the differences between remanufactured, rebuilt, and used parts, and the benefits of choosing Jasper.

For a local user in Columbus, Ohio, while Jasper Engines & Transmissions does not have a direct retail service center, their impact is felt through the many local "Auto Repair Stations" that choose to install Jasper's remanufactured engines, transmissions, and differentials. When a major powertrain component needs replacement, a mechanic recommending a Jasper product is offering a solution backed by decades of specialized expertise, rigorous quality control, and a leading nationwide warranty, providing a reliable and often more economical path to getting their vehicle back on the road.

Jasper Engines & Transmissions Customer Reviews

Years ago, I bought two other brands of rebuilt transmissions. They both failed quickly. Then, we paid the higher price for a far superior transmission from Jasper. It was rugged and reliable. Amazing concept: they rebuild used equipment, and redesign parts better than original to fix the weak areas. Now my son may need to do that with an engine. We will buy a Jasper if it comes to that…!!!😊😊😊😊

I was pricing a new transmission for my truck I have never purchased a transmission from Jasper Engines before, but I have helped two of my friends that have purchased engines from Jasper before and we had no issues with those engines whatsoever so I can speak to the quality of their engine rebuilds, which I would say are excellent. If I decide to put a new transmission in my truck and I buy it from Jasper I'll give you a transmission review after I drive it for a few months.

I normally only spread positivity but in this case, I am spreading a warning. 3 years, 100,000 mile warranty, remanufactured motor. 40,000 / 2 years, motor catastrophic failure; after months of diagnostic tests, they replace it. 20,000 miles, 1 year later, bent rod, slammed lifter. Jaspers offer, 8% a new motor. Sorry, cant buy another when you wont stand behind 2 that have failed on me. Save your time and money, go another route. Rebuild what you have DONT USE JASPER. Keep in mind, they are honoring their warranty; just shallow on standing behind their terrible product. PS, it wouldnt let me post with no stars so there is that!

We were also told to drill the flywheel to make their transmission work on our van

On August 3, 2012 I purchased a rebuilt motor from Jasper Engines & Transmissions $3456.32 and to replace the long block added $1360 in labor charges. The limited warranty was for 3 years/100,000 miles. (Stock #137610 and Production #202731) Then on October 24, 2014, that engine also died. The next engine was free(ish) but I paid $929.68 for strut mount stud plate/kit and labor to replace the motor. Apparently, the second motor (third for the car) does not come with it's own warranty and after about 20,000 miles, it too, dies. So when my car died again, on August 26, 2016, I am again supposed to pay for engines that don't seem to last two years when I expected it to last over 100,000 miles. Oh wait...Woody (at ext 10994) offered me a 9% discount for a new/remanufactured engine.
