J & F Upholstery Introduce
Welcome to J & F Upholstery, located at 2101 S 4th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85713, USA. While categorized under Auto Repair Stations, J & F Upholstery provides specialized services related to the interior aesthetics and comfort of vehicles, focusing on upholstery repair, replacement, and customization. Serving the Tucson community, they cater to individuals looking to restore or enhance the interior of their cars, trucks, and potentially other types of vehicles. Their expertise lies in working with various materials such as fabric, leather, and vinyl to address issues with seats, headliners, door panels, and more.
Based on the available customer reviews, the environment and operational practices at J & F Upholstery present a mixed picture. One long-term customer recounts a significantly negative experience involving a 1965 Mustang project that took nine months instead of the promised week. This review details issues such as prolonged delays, damage to the vehicle (bird poop stain, chipped paint, sun-faded door panel), loss of keys, and unsatisfactory workmanship on several upholstery tasks (glove box, headliner, trunk, dash). The customer also notes a perceived lack of responsibility from the shop regarding the damages incurred. This paints a picture of potential disorganization, poor communication regarding timelines, and a lack of adequate care for vehicles left in their possession for extended periods. Conversely, another customer reports an "amazing job" on their Jaguar headliner, describing the result as "better than new" and offering high praise for the work. This suggests that when projects are completed to satisfaction, the quality of the upholstery work can be excellent. However, the stark contrast between these two recent experiences indicates a potential inconsistency in service quality, project management, and customer care.
J & F Upholstery specializes in a range of automotive upholstery services aimed at restoring, repairing, or customizing vehicle interiors. Based on the customer reviews, their services include:
- Seat Repair and Reupholstery: Addressing issues such as tears, wear and tear, sagging, or complete reupholstering of vehicle seats using various materials.
- Headliner Replacement: Replacing damaged or sagging headliners, as highlighted by the positive Jaguar review. They may offer both customer-supplied and in-house headliner materials.
- Door Panel Upholstery: Repairing or replacing fabric or vinyl on door panels, as referenced by the sun-faded passenger door panel in the negative review.
- Carpet Replacement or Repair: While not explicitly mentioned, upholstery shops often handle carpet-related issues within vehicle interiors.
- Custom Upholstery Work: The mention of "multiple small projects" and the trunk upholstery suggests they undertake custom upholstery tasks to personalize vehicle interiors.
- Convertible Top Replacement (Likely): Although not directly mentioned in the reviews, upholstery shops frequently offer services for convertible tops, including replacement and repair.
- Dashboard Repair and Upholstery: The negative review mentions a dash installation, indicating they may handle upholstery or replacement of dashboard components.
- Glove Box Repair or Replacement: The issue with the torn cardboard glove box suggests they handle repairs or installations related to this component.
- Seatbelt Repair (Minor): The quick fix of a frayed seatbelt stitch indicates they can address minor upholstery-related repairs on safety features.
The features of J & F Upholstery, as observed from the customer reviews, present a dichotomy:
- Potential for High-Quality Upholstery Work: The positive review of the Jaguar headliner demonstrates the shop's capability to produce excellent results when focused and executed well.
- Skilled Upholsterers (Potentially): The ability to make a headliner "better than new" suggests the presence of skilled craftspeople within the shop.
- Significant Issues with Project Management and Timelines: The negative review highlights severe problems with project duration, with a one-week job turning into a nine-month ordeal.
- Poor Communication and Lack of Accountability: The brushing off of vehicle damage and the lack of apology indicate potential issues with communication and taking responsibility for errors.
- Inadequate Vehicle Care During Extended Projects: Leaving a vehicle outside for months, leading to damage from the elements, raises concerns about the level of care taken for customer property.
- Inconsistent Workmanship: The contrasting experiences and the specific issues with the glove box, headliner, trunk, and dash in the negative review suggest inconsistency in the quality of the final results across different projects.
- Potential Disregard for Out-of-Town Customers (Alleged): The negative reviewer's recommendation to live in Tucson suggests a perceived bias against customers from outside the local area.
Currently, there is no information available regarding promotional offers from J & F Upholstery based on the provided customer reviews. Upholstery shops may occasionally offer promotions such as:

- Package Deals: Discounts for multiple upholstery services bundled together (e.g., reupholstering front and back seats).

- Discounts for Classic Car Restorations: Given the mention of a 1965 Mustang, they might offer specific pricing for classic vehicle upholstery projects.

In conclusion, J & F Upholstery in Tucson, AZ, specializes in automotive upholstery services, offering a range of repairs, replacements, and custom work for vehicle interiors. While one customer reported a severely negative experience marked by extensive delays, vehicle damage, and unsatisfactory workmanship, another praised their headliner replacement as exceptional. This stark contrast suggests potential inconsistencies in service quality and project management. Local users considering J & F Upholstery should be aware of these differing experiences and are advised to communicate clearly about project timelines, expectations, and vehicle care, potentially documenting the vehicle's condition upon drop-off. While the potential for high-quality upholstery work exists, the reported issues with project handling warrant careful consideration.

J & F Upholstery Customer Reviews
I dropped my 1965 Mustang off in March for multiple small projects and was told that it would take a week to complete. Being from out of town, I booked a hotel for the week figuring I'd drop it off on Monday and pick it up on Friday, then drive it home. After all, this shop had done speedy and professional work for me in the past, never taking more than a couple of days. I let Patrick know that was my plan when I made the appointment. That did not happen. What followed was 9 months of the false promise, "It'll be ready in 2 weeks." My car sat all-year in/outside of this shop. During that time, a bird pooped on the hood and burned in a stain and the shop had chipped up my passenger door pretty badly. When I mentioned it to Patrick when I picked the car up 9 months later, he brushed it off with, "I don't know man, it was outside for a couple months". He knows exactly what happened being as he wiped the poop off of the hood before I picked it up. It is also difficult to not notice the very distinguished chips in my door. I have an appointment with a paint shop to repair the damage, which is costing me $700. As another consequence of being left outside, the vinyl passenger door panel is now sun faded. During the time it was left in the shop, Patrick had lost the key and I had to send him a new one. I wasn't going to send him the only other original Ford key that I had, so I had a copy made at a locksmith and had it sent down. That key apparently didn't work (more money I was out with the locksmith and shipping), so I had to send him my only other original key. Now I have to go to another locksmith to have a spare made (again). Patrick did give me $400 off of the overall cost for the multiple jobs citing, "for it being so late", but never once did he take responsibility for the damage that he/his shop did to my car. I'm glad I had another reliable witness to what happened since it really was quite unbelievable how easily he brushed me off and didn't admit to anything. Additionally, among the jobs he completed was the install of a cardboard glove box. Well, during the install, the glove box tore, so I'm back to square one on that job. He cited difficulty with installing a new headliner that I brought in and mentioned that he would install a new one from scratch, compliments of the shop (for being so late), but he eventually came to the conclusion that enough glue would do the trick, leaving me with a headliner that looks like my toddler glued it down in the rear corners, so that's another job I'll have to have re-done. The trunk that he upholstered turned out pretty well, aside from one of the carpet sections that looks as if somebody drug something sharp across it, so that's a noticeable defect. I probably wont have that fixed since it's more effort than its worth to get somebody to match that carpet piece to the rest of the trunk. The dash that he installed turned out okay, but again, the small things stand out such as one side was screwed in lower than the other, thus exposing the center speaker more on one side than the other. Those were 4 of the 5 jobs I had him do. The 5th was to stich a frayed seatbelt stitch that came out, which he forgot about until I mentioned it at pickup, which he remedied pretty quickly. Why didn't I leave my car with him to fix all of the things I noticed at pick-up?..because I saw what 9 months of neglect did to my car and am afraid of what would continue to happen if I left it. I'm leaving 2-stars instead of 1 as a courtesy to the good work this shop has done in the past. I have stated nothing but facts in this review and will not encourage/discourage you from using J&F, but this was my experience. My recommendation if you do use this shop is to take pictures of your vehicle at drop-off (similar to what dealerships do) and get those pictures with your vehicle in-front of this business, so there is no question as to the condition it entered the shop. Also, I'd recommend you live in Tucson. They clearly blow off out-of-town work.

I had them remove my old seat cover and install this new seat cover for my yfz450... they installed it pretty tight with no ripples or tears. They were able to finish this same day which was even better.. The customer service and work here is very professional and couldnt have done better馃憦

Patrick did a complete color change on my 79 Monte Carlo show car and I have been winning at car shows since. You could look in my car and never know that it was Red. He payed attention to detail and made it look unique. The bonus was the price very reasonable for the quality of work and quick turn around less then a week for complete inside job.

I dropped off my 3 seats in September of 2023. They were ready in April 2024. One seat was supposed to fold, and upon pick up day, it didn't fold, and it was upholstered so it wouldn't. After 7 months, you would figure that the job would have been done correctly. Poor communication. He did adjust the price a little for the delay, but wouldn't you rather have the job done right at the agreed price? The seams are straight, and the pattern is correct, so the sewing is good. I went to another $hop and they fixed the folding $eat. This shop has a good reputation, however it didn't happen on this job.
