Hilltop Auto Parts Introduce
Hilltop Auto Parts, located at 2965 N John B Dennis Hwy, Kingsport, TN 37660, USA, operates primarily as an auto salvage yard or junkyard, providing used auto parts to the local community. Unlike a traditional retail auto parts store that sells new aftermarket or OEM parts, Hilltop Auto Parts specializes in recycling and reselling components from dismantled vehicles. This business model positions them within the broader category of "Auto Repair Stations" by offering a crucial supply chain for repairs, particularly for older vehicles where new parts may be difficult or expensive to source.
The environment of a salvage yard like Hilltop Auto Parts typically differs significantly from a clean, organized retail store. Customers should expect an outdoor environment, often with rows of vehicles in various states of disrepair. The ground may be uneven, and conditions can vary depending on weather. As indicated by customer reviews, there appears to be an entrance fee (mentioned as "$2 cash") to access the yard, which is a common practice at some self-service or full-service junkyards to manage access and cover overhead for yard maintenance. The process involves customers searching for or requesting specific parts from the vehicles available on-site. It's important for visitors to be prepared for a hands-on experience, and in some cases, as one review notes, "I had to have other tools to get another part," suggesting that customers may need to bring their own tools for part removal. The overall ambiance is less about a polished retail experience and more about the raw utility of finding a needed component from a donor vehicle.
The services offered by Hilltop Auto Parts revolve around the sale of used automotive components. As a salvage yard, their primary service is providing access to a wide array of parts from salvaged vehicles. This includes everything from body panels, lights (like the "taillight" mentioned in a review), engines, transmissions, interior components, and electrical parts such as alternators. The inventory constantly changes as new vehicles are acquired and dismantled. While some salvage yards allow customers to "pull their own parts" (self-service), others operate as "full-service" yards where staff retrieve the parts for the customer. The reviews suggest a mixed model or perhaps a transition in their operations, with one customer needing to retrieve a part themselves, while another notes an alternator was "already taken off," implying staff assistance or a pre-pulled inventory. The business also likely participates in vehicle acquisition, buying salvageable or end-of-life vehicles to replenish their stock. The phone numbers, (423) 390-1388 and mobile +1 423-390-1388, serve as direct lines for customers to inquire about part availability or the process of selling a vehicle.
The key features of Hilltop Auto Parts, as highlighted by customer feedback, include its function as a source for potentially hard-to-find or cost-effective used auto parts. The low price point is often a primary draw for customers seeking used parts, particularly for older car models. However, the customer reviews also shed light on specific operational aspects and challenges. One significant feature is the aforementioned "2 dollars cash to get in," an access fee that customers should be aware of before visiting. Another notable feature, or rather a point of concern raised by customers, relates to customer service and transaction transparency. One review details an experience of repeatedly having to ask for change back after cash payments, suggesting potential issues with cash handling or staff attention to detail. This highlights the importance of customers being vigilant during transactions. A more serious feature described in another review is the contentious nature of interactions regarding perceived theft. The account of being "accused of stealing" after simply "matching it up" with a part, being refused belief, and being kicked out while photos of their license plate were taken, points to a confrontational approach in certain customer service scenarios. This suggests a firm, and at times, potentially aggressive, stance on security and inventory control, which can be a significant deterrent for customers. The review describes the interaction as "extremely egotistical" and a refusal to "admit he was wrong," indicating a lack of customer-centric resolution in that particular instance. This type of experience can heavily influence a customer's perception and willingness to return.
In terms of promotional information, based solely on the provided reviews, the primary "promotions" are the inherent cost savings associated with buying used parts compared to new ones. There is no explicit mention of traditional promotional offers like discounts, loyalty programs, or advertising campaigns. Instead, the real customer feedback inadvertently serves as a form of "promotion" or "dispromotion." The positive aspect, for some, would be the ability to find a specific part at a lower price point. However, the negative experiences detailed by customers, particularly concerning the entrance fee, the need to ask for change, and especially the accusation of theft, act as strong cautionary notes. For local users considering Hilltop Auto Parts, this information suggests that while the potential for finding a needed part at a good price exists, they should be prepared for a transactional environment that may require a degree of assertiveness regarding change and potentially a very direct interaction style from staff, particularly if any misunderstandings arise. There is no information available to suggest any online presence for part searching or any active community engagement efforts. Therefore, the most practical promotional advice for potential customers is to call ahead to inquire about part availability and clarify any policies, such as the entrance fee or self-pulling options, to manage expectations and ensure a smoother visit.

When did junk yards start charging you to go into the yard. Crazy. I brought a taillight and went and paid for it. I waited for my change but lady wasn't getting any so I had to ask for it. I had to have other tools to get another part. After I paid for it I waited for my change again. Nope. It was just 15 cents so I just stool there a minute to see if she was going to give me my change. Nothing. So I just left. So if your paying cash be ready to ask for your change back or you won't get it. Don't forget your 2 dollars cash to get in...

Absolutely awful experience. I’ve been to hilltop many times with no problems, but today I went looking for an alternator, I found one on an old Yukon. The alternator was already taken off so I just grabbed it and walked over to my vehicle to match it with the one on there, the electrical inserts were wrong. So I brought it back and put it in the scrap pile. A few minutes later they accused me of stealing it, I explained to them I was just matching it up. And they refused to believe me I told them to check the cameras or even search my vehicle, they refused and blatantly accused me of stealing. I even shown them the alternator. And the guy told me “that I was planning on stealing it”. They then proceeded to kick me out and take pictures of my license plate. The man who threw me out was extremely egotistical and refused to admit he was wrong. This is not how you run a business.

Got the part I needed. I told the lady at the counter that the part had been exposed to the weather and that it may not work. She said I could bring it back and get my money credited back. The part didn’t work as I suspected and I took it back within the 5 days. She wanted to grill me about if the part was bad and I had to explain it how I know the part is bad. She threw it in the garbage and told me I get store credit. I told her I had no need for store credit, they have nothing else that I want or need. She refused to give me my money back. My business will go to EBay where I can return parts if they don’t work or I will make the drive to Pull-A-Part in Knoxville where you don’t have to roll around in the mud to find a part. I will post and continue to post on my social media accounts that this place is a legitimate “junk yard” full of trash.

The prices have climbed to an insane level, this used to be my place to go to get parts, however prices have skyrocketed and become illogical to pay. Was told 100 dollars for a metal fender when new ones eith inner liners cost the same or less, plus that was a set price even if it was damaged.

For the most part I've been pretty satisfied with this place butt yesterday I had a little trouble in the office first the lady was completely rude and impatient with me one of my customers had a problem sending money for one of the parts and the lady acted like it was an act of Congress to take it off of the bill after being up there for 3 hours taking parts off I was hot and thirsty and asked for a bottle of water that they have a sign on the wall for a dollar before she handed it to me she asked me if I had a dollar at that time I replied just put it on the card it'll be okay and then I was informed that it wasn't the auto parts place selling the waters it was her and she only takes cash at which point I started digging in my pockets for change I don't keep cash on me only card and only found 82 cents I'll set that on the counter while she was on the phone when she hung up she asked me and I'm not very nice way if I had found a dollar and I told her there was 82 cents on the counter she didn't say a word before she grabs the bottle of water and put it back in the fridge then as I was waiting for the okay to charge another customer's card for the other part she got smart with me and told me to take the part that I wasn't going to buy outside and instead of feeling like a paying customer she made me feel like a nuisance I've never had problems like this before although the lady has never really been friendly but I felt completely disrespected and I don't care who you are if you're in front of me in line and a couple dollars short and I have it I give it to you not to mention I offered to go to my car and get the rest of the change and she refused
