Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales Introduce
Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales, situated at 340 Granite St, Yarmouth, ME 04096, operates within the broad category of "Auto Repair Stations," indicating its primary function in providing automotive services. Beyond repairs, the establishment also engages in vehicle sales, suggesting a dual role as both a service center and a used car dealership. You can contact them at (207) 846-4366 or +1 207-846-4366.
As a combined auto service and sales facility, Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales would typically feature a service bay area for repairs and maintenance, along with a space for displaying vehicles for sale. The environment is generally utilitarian, designed to facilitate mechanical work and showcase inventory. In a smaller, local establishment, the atmosphere might lean more towards direct interaction with the staff and owners rather than a large, impersonal dealership setting.
However, customer reviews present a severe and concerning picture regarding the customer experience and the care of vehicles. Identical reviews from a real customer explicitly state, "They obviously left our Volkswagen sitting, neglected, for a long period of time and it was taken over by rodents. The headlight they replaced has failed and all of the lights are failing, a bunch of our stuff was chewed up and destroyed when we got the vehicle back. This is unacceptable, and I demand explanation and compensation. This is so outrageous!!!" This feedback highlights significant issues with vehicle care, the quality of repairs (failed headlight), and the overall condition of the vehicle upon return, including damage from rodents and destruction of personal belongings. This indicates a potentially very negative and frustrating experience for at least one customer, raising serious questions about the handling and security of vehicles left in their care.
Operating as an "Auto Repair Station," Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales would generally provide a range of automotive maintenance and repair services. Given their dual role as a sales facility, these services would likely cater to both vehicles they sell and those brought in by existing customers. Common services offered by such establishments typically include:
General Automotive Repair: Addressing issues with various vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension.
Preventative Maintenance: Routine services like oil changes, fluid checks and top-offs, and filter replacements (air, cabin, fuel).
Diagnostic Services: Using diagnostic tools to identify the root cause of mechanical or electrical problems.
Tire Services: Potentially including tire repair, rotation, balancing, and sales, although specific details are not available.
Electrical System Repair: Addressing issues with headlights, lighting systems, and other electrical components.
Vehicle Sales: Offering used vehicles for sale, which often comes with an assurance of inspection and basic reconditioning before sale.
The explicit mention of a replaced headlight that subsequently failed in the customer review indicates that they do perform lighting system repairs. However, the severe nature of the issues reported by the customer (rodent infestation, destroyed belongings, widespread light failures) casts a shadow over the reliability and quality of these services in specific instances.
Based on the available information, the distinctive features of Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales appear to be its dual function as an auto repair shop and a used car dealership. This combination might offer convenience for customers looking for both sales and service under one roof.
However, the reputation of Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales, as conveyed by the provided customer reviews, is severely impacted. The repeated, highly critical review detailing vehicle neglect, rodent infestation, damaged property, and failed repairs is a significant concern. This kind of feedback directly contradicts the expected standards of care and professionalism in an auto repair station. A positive reputation in the auto repair industry is built on trust, quality workmanship, and reliable vehicle handling. The reported issues suggest a serious breach of that trust and a failure to meet basic expectations for vehicle security and repair quality. The customer's demand for explanation and compensation underscores the gravity of their experience.
While the company might aim to offer comprehensive services, the public perception, based on these reviews, is negatively affected by the reported incidents of neglect and damage. This makes it challenging to objectively highlight positive features without acknowledging the critical issues raised by the customer.
Given the negative customer feedback, specific promotional information or explicit value propositions for Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales are not readily available or would be overshadowed by the critical reviews. Typically, auto repair stations promote:
Reliable Service: Assurance that repairs are done correctly and vehicles are returned in improved condition.
Customer Trust: Building confidence through transparent practices and respectful vehicle handling.
Quality Parts and Workmanship: Guaranteeing the integrity of replaced components and the work performed.
However, the customer reviews directly challenge these fundamental aspects. For any business, customer satisfaction and the integrity of services provided are the most crucial forms of promotion. In this case, the provided reviews suggest a significant deviation from expected service quality, which would likely negate any general promotional efforts.
For potential local users in Yarmouth, ME, Hewitt's Auto Services & Sales at 340 Granite St appears to offer both repair services and used vehicle sales. However, the highly critical and consistent customer feedback regarding vehicle neglect and damage should be a primary consideration for anyone looking to utilize their services. It is advisable for prospective customers to exercise caution and thoroughly investigate the business's current standing and recent reviews before entrusting their vehicle to this establishment.

They are shifty and hearing their stupid WGAN ads now inspired me to write this. I brought my SUV there for a window regulator and door hinges. When I got it back the door still would not shut right at all and they said it was not fixable, but they charged me. A few months later my transmission's 1&2 gears went out (same vehicle) and I brought it to R&D in Freeport first to get it looked at, but I found out they do not work on transmissions. A week or so later I called Hewitt's and asked if they were a "full service garage that re-built transmissions" to which the guy on the phone said "yes we do"; they'd look at it, but they couldn't for 3 weeks. I took it to them despite the delay, and said "get me an estimate" to rebuild my transmission, as I had 2 other vehicles to drive and wasn't worried about their timeline. However, after one week goes by, I get a phone call from them telling me that "they looked at it and my transmission is bad" and to move my SUV or they will have my vehicle towed because we were expecting some snow that weekend! So I asked "where's my estimate?" -- to which the guy replied "we don't rebuild transmissions." Then the night I picked it up, they charged me $80 or $90 for looking at my transmission (essentially putting it into gear) even though I was the one that told them my transmission was broke in the first place when I brought it to them. The whopper was when I paid their ridiculous bill for no work done, is that the owner of the shop said to me and I quote " you better do something about that driver's side door of yours it doesn't shut right" and I replied "you were the ones that fixed it". Also at the time he couldn't stop fidgeting and he looked like he was either coming down off something or covering up something. Moral to the story is that I had to double-pay for the transmission and the door to REALLY get it fixed by someone else.
