HBR Competition Engines Introduce

For decades, HBR Competition Engines has stood as a pillar in the high-performance automotive world, offering specialized engine building and machine shop services. Located at 6959 Speedway Blvd W108, Las Vegas, NV 89115, USA, this establishment has built a formidable reputation for delivering powerful and reliable engines, earning the trust of a diverse clientele ranging from professional racers to street enthusiasts.

Environment and Heritage

HBR Competition Engines operates out of a dedicated machine shop in Las Vegas, a facility that has been home to their precision work since their relocation from Hollywood, Florida, in 2002. The business was founded by Rick Rapp in 1981, initially focusing on "Heads by Rick" (HBR) for cylinder head porting, polishing, and flowing. Over the years, it expanded into a complete machine shop, now a family-owned and operated enterprise run by Rick and his son, Jeremy. This long-standing history, with over 35 years of experience, speaks volumes about their depth of knowledge and expertise in the highly specialized field of competition engine building. While specific details about the interior ambiance are not readily available, the focus on "complete machine shop" and "all work completed in house" suggests a professional, well-equipped environment geared towards intricate and high-tolerance engine work, indicative of a serious performance shop rather than a general automotive repair garage.

Services Offered

HBR Competition Engines is a full-service machine shop specializing in high-performance engine builds and repairs. Their services cater to a wide array of vehicles and applications, including drag racing, stock cars, street cars, sand cars, boats, imports, and restorations. Their commitment to quality is evident in their policy of completing all work in-house, which ensures meticulous control over every step of the engine building process. Key services include:

  • Motor Assembly: Expert assembly of engines for various performance levels and applications.

  • Engine Blocks: Precision machining and preparation of engine blocks.

  • Cylinder Heads: Specialization in cylinder head work, including porting, polishing, and flowing, which was the original core of their business.

  • Pistons and Rods: Custom fitting and preparation of pistons and connecting rods for optimal performance.

  • Cranks: Balancing and machining of crankshafts.

  • Flywheels: Preparation and balancing of flywheels.

  • High-Performance Engine Builds: Their core competency, offering custom engine combinations designed for specific power and reliability goals. This includes everything from pump gas street/strip engines to "BADASS" competition setups.

  • Engine Repairs: Comprehensive repair services for performance and standard engines.

Their expertise extends to guiding customers in selecting the right combination of components to achieve desired performance, showcasing their deep understanding of engine dynamics and customer needs. This consultative approach is a significant aspect of their service, especially for those venturing into custom engine builds.

Features and Customer Experience

The defining feature of HBR Competition Engines is their unwavering commitment to building "fast and reliable engines." This is consistently highlighted by customer testimonials. The "complete machine shop" aspect ensures that precision and quality control are maintained throughout the build process, as they handle all aspects of the work in-house. This minimizes reliance on external vendors and allows for tighter tolerances and higher standards. The family-owned and operated nature of the business, with Rick and Jeremy at the helm, often translates into a more personalized and dedicated customer experience, where clients can directly interact with the experts working on their engines.

Customer service is a recurring theme in positive feedback. One long-term client, who has been dealing with HBR since 1991, emphasizes that "CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE." This individual’s experience, evolving from a SBC 383 street/strip engine to a formidable SBC 427, illustrates the consistent quality and expertise offered over many years. The ability to build engines that "pin me back in the seat" speaks to the tangible performance gains clients experience. They are known for being "so helpful putting together the right combination," which indicates a hands-on approach to client consultation and project planning.

While the majority of feedback points to exceptional service and results, it's worth noting a piece of mixed feedback. One customer, who had been promoting HBR for approximately 20 years, recently had a negative experience where a "small piece" was deemed "not worth their time," leading to a cessation of promotion and a decision to seek services elsewhere. This isolated comment, while important to acknowledge for a balanced view, stands against a strong backdrop of long-term customer loyalty and high praise for their specialized engine work. It underscores that even highly specialized shops may have limitations on the scope of work they undertake, focusing on larger, more complex engine projects that align with their core expertise in competition engine building.

Promotional Information and Value Proposition

HBR Competition Engines positions itself on its expertise and dedication to quality. While specific promotional offers or discounts are not publicly detailed, their core promotional message is built around their ability to provide "precise manual machining and quality high performance engine work" for over 35 years. They emphasize being "priced competitively" and working to ensure that "your investment is wisely utilized to meet your performance needs within your budget." This suggests a focus on delivering value through superior engineering and craftsmanship rather than through widespread discounts.

Their website encourages potential clients to call for quotes, indicating a personalized approach to pricing based on the specific needs and complexity of each engine build. The emphasis on tailored solutions and high-end performance serves as their primary draw, attracting clients who prioritize power, reliability, and precision in their automotive pursuits. Their long-standing presence in the industry and loyal customer base, even after a cross-country move, are testaments to the consistent quality and trust they have cultivated.

In conclusion, HBR Competition Engines stands as a highly reputable and specialized Auto Repair Station in Las Vegas, particularly for those seeking top-tier engine building and machining services. Their environment is that of a professional and fully equipped machine shop, their services are comprehensive for performance engine work, their features include decades of experience and a commitment to precision, and their promotional appeal lies in their proven track record of delivering powerful, reliable, and custom-built engines with exceptional customer service.

HBR Competition Engines Customer Reviews

Rick, Jeremy, and the entire staff build fast and reliable engines at a very fair price. I’ve been dealing with them since 1991 when they were in Hollywood Florida. Back then they built me a SBC 383 street/strip engine that ran 11.50’s pump gas naturally aspirated. Time to step it up… they just built me a SBC 427 (Dart block, Brodix heads) that is BADASS . I haven’t been to the track yet but this engine “pins me back in the seat “. I can’t say enough about these guys they are so helpful putting together the right combination and CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE… Thanks HBR COMPETITION ENGINES

I have been going to HBR for around 20 years and promoting them whenever I can. Recently, I took a small piece there that could easily been done by them. Well, it's not worth their time. So now, I don't promote them and will be going elsewhere.

I heard from a friend that HBR is good, but it takes a while for turnaround. I had no problem with waiting because I didn't have all the money. These guys allowed me to drop off the engine and pay them over a few months as I got money. I've been driving my 351w bronco for 2yrs now and she's running like a champ. I'm taking them another engine next week

They work with you and are extremely knowledgeable. I knew nothing about the Machine shop process. With that being said these guys took the time to talk to me and explain procedures and different processes involved with rebuilding an engine. Recommend to anyone who needs machine work done. I have already referred 3 friends of mine personally. Prices are fair as well.
