FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR Introduce
FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR, located at 119 Central Dr, Brandon, FL 33511, operates as an **Auto Repair Station** with a particular specialization in transmission services. They can be reached by phone at (813) 643-0066 or via mobile at +1 813-643-0066. As a family-owned business, they emphasize being a local auto repair and maintenance service that aims to be a one-stop auto shop for the Brandon community.
The **environment** at FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR is described as a professional auto repair and maintenance shop. As an Auto Repair Station, one would expect a facility equipped with the necessary tools and bays for both general auto repairs and specialized transmission work. This would likely include diagnostic equipment, lifts, and a clean, organized workshop space for mechanics to efficiently work on vehicles. Their commitment to being a "family-run business" suggests an atmosphere that might aim for a more personal and approachable customer experience, as opposed to a large corporate chain. The online presence also indicates that they are an authorized TECHNET Professional Automotive Service facility, which typically means adherence to certain industry standards for equipment and practices. While specific details about a customer waiting area or amenities are not provided, the focus is clearly on the technical capacity of the shop to handle diverse automotive issues, particularly complex transmission problems.
FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR offers a range of **services**, specializing in, but not limited to, transmission work. As an **Auto Repair Station**, their core offerings include:
- **Transmission Services:** This is a primary focus, given the name. They address issues related to automatic, manual, four-wheel drive, and front-wheel drive transmissions. Services would include diagnosis, repair, rebuilding, and potentially replacement of transmissions. They emphasize that the transmission is a complex and costly component, and they are equipped to handle its intricate needs.
- **General Auto Repairs:** Beyond transmissions, they provide "general all-around services for every need," indicating they handle standard maintenance and tune-up services. This would likely include oil changes, brake services, engine work (diagnosis and repair), tire services, and other common vehicle maintenance tasks.
- **Jeep Maintenance:** They specifically highlight a specialization in "the repair and maintenance of Jeep vehicles," noting their servicemen have "extensive knowledge of this brand." This suggests they are a go-to shop for Jeep owners in the area.
- **Diagnostic Services:** As with any modern auto repair shop, they would utilize diagnostic tools to accurately pinpoint vehicle problems before commencing repairs.
The **features** of FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR are best understood through the contrasting experiences shared by customers.
- **Expertise in Transmissions (Claimed):** Their name and stated specialization suggest a high level of expertise in transmission diagnostics and repair. They claim to be "specially trained and qualified to handle any transmission problem."
- **Customer Involvement and Explanation (Positive Review):** One positive customer review highlights a strong feature: "The most honest and upfront. They kept me involved and explained everything I asked about." This indicates a commitment to transparency and clear communication, where customers feel informed and respected. The praise for Lisa and Pete (likely staff members) and their mechanics suggests a team that "care about their work."
- **Family-Run Business:** Being a family-run business is a featured aspect, often implying a personalized approach to customer service and a vested interest in community reputation.
- **Competitive Pricing:** Their website mentions offering services "at some of the lowest prices around" and "competitive pricing on repair and maintenance services," aiming to attract budget-conscious customers.
- **Warranty and Accountability Issues:** A major concern arises from a customer whose transmission failed after only 20,000 miles, falling short of the implied warranty mileage and their previous transmission's longevity. The shop "won’t cover it" and "deflected responsibility," initially attributing the failure to overheating, which the customer strongly disputed. This highlights a severe lack of accountability and unwillingness to stand behind their work, a critical negative feature in any auto repair business.
- **Questionable Workmanship/Parts Quality:** The customer alleges "100% workmanship failure or maybe it’s your business model to use inferior parts and non-ASE certified mechanics." While the shop states they are an authorized TECHNET facility (which usually implies certified mechanics and warranty coverage), this customer's experience directly contradicts that, suggesting potential issues with the quality of their rebuilds or the parts used.
- **Lack of Resolution:** The customer's inability to get the issue resolved despite moving and then returning to Tampa after demonstrating the vehicle did not overheat under similar load conditions further emphasizes a critical failure in customer service and dispute resolution.
FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR utilizes several **promotional** messages and strategies:
- **Specialization in Transmissions:** Their name itself is a primary promotional tool, clearly indicating their area of expertise. They market themselves as the go-to place for transmission problems, offering "FREE transmission diagnostic" on some platforms.
- **Competitive Pricing:** They promote offering their services "at some of the lowest prices around" and "competitive pricing on repair and maintenance services" to attract customers seeking value.
- **Family-Owned and Operated:** This is a key promotional angle, aiming to convey trust, personal service, and a commitment to the local community ("family ready to take care of your family").
- **TECHNET Professional Automotive Service Facility:** Being an authorized TECHNET facility is promoted to highlight a "nationwide limited repair warranty for 24 months or 24,000 miles," providing a perceived layer of security and trust for customers. However, the negative review directly challenges the application of this warranty.
- **One-Stop Auto Shop:** They aim to be a comprehensive solution for various auto repair needs beyond just transmissions, promoting convenience for customers.
- **Positive Testimonials (Selective):** Their website features positive customer reviews, such as one highlighting "top quality work with passion and integrity" and "quality and honesty at reasonable rates," which serve as powerful promotional tools.
In conclusion, FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR, located at 119 Central Dr, Brandon, FL 33511, presents itself as an **Auto Repair Station** specializing in transmission services, general auto repairs, and specific Jeep maintenance. As a family-owned business, they promote competitive pricing and a commitment to being a one-stop shop, backed by their status as a TECHNET facility. While some customers praise their honesty, transparency, and the caring attitude of their mechanics (Lisa and Pete), a significant portion of customer feedback highlights severe issues regarding warranty adherence, alleged workmanship failures, and a lack of accountability, particularly concerning transmission longevity and problem resolution. This contrasting feedback means that while they offer a range of services and attractive promotional claims, potential customers should carefully consider the full spectrum of experiences reported online before entrusting their vehicle to FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR.

FIRSTGEAR TRANSMISSIONS & AUTO REPAIR Customer Reviews
Take nothing to first gear 20,000 miles my transmission goes out and they won’t cover it. I would highly recommend take nothing nothing to them!!!!!! You’re right it’s in Canada because I moved to Alaska, so no realistic way to bring it back! and yes they said it over heated. I’ve had the truck for five years I’ve got now 240 plus on the truck and the original transmission went 218 and yours didn’t even go to the warranty mileage. The truck is only loaded with a sled deck and two snowmobiles along with riding gear. So to say I over heated the transmission is not true the trucks not over load. See the picture I add I s from when I left Florida. 100% workmanship failure or maybe it’s your business model to use inferior parts and non-ASE certified mechanics. Only two months out of warranty I feel we should split the cost of the repair bill! Again, if you choose to take your transmission there, you might only get 20,000 miles out of it or you might get 200,000 either way they’re not gonna stand behind the work they do!!! Just wanted to update this post. I picked up my truck and drove back down from Canada going over the l Grand Teton Pass with the same load and no over heating and drove back to Tampa. So again sure does seem like to me the failure of the transmission that was installed by First Gear was not rebuilt to any standard.

Expect To Come Back (Not In A Good Way) I asked a local Jeep group who was a good mechanic in the area and numerous people told me about Firstgear. I gave them a call to get both our differentials serviced & both leaking pinion seals replaced. Everyone was friendly, the price was good, the work performed looked great, & they had it done in half a day.. which was all fine and dandy. Unfortunately however the seals started leaking after a little over 3 months. When I gave them a call they said that was normal wear and tear for off roading, so I just decided to go elsewhere. Especially when I knew I hadn't been off road after the work other than some dirt / gravel national forest roads. I had to have the work redone at another shop and those seals were still good when I regeared almost a year later. Not only did I have problems, but unfortunately before our seals went out I recommended them to two of my buddies. Both of which had to go back several times to get things corrected after they did the work. One was a whole transmission rebuild.. not like it was a cheap bill. I would NEVER recommend this shop. I decided to come edit my original review after those experiences and it pains me to do so as they were friendly and a small shop, hence why I left 2 stars still.
