Castillo's Machine Shop Introduce
Located at 3735 N Nellis Blvd Ste. #135, Las Vegas, NV 89115, USA, Castillo's Machine Shop operates as a specialized Auto Repair Station with a distinct focus on engine machining services. Unlike general automotive repair shops that handle all aspects of a vehicle, Castillo's niche lies in the intricate and precise work required for engine components, particularly cylinder heads. This makes them a go-to for mechanics and car enthusiasts in Las Vegas who need specialized engine work, rather than routine maintenance or body repairs.
The environment of a machine shop like Castillo's is typically a specialized industrial setting. Customers can expect a workshop dedicated to precision machining, with equipment such as milling machines, lathes, grinding machines, and specialized tools for engine component work. The atmosphere would likely be focused on the technical aspects of engine rebuilding and part modification. While there might be a small office or reception area for customer interactions, the primary space is dedicated to the machinery and skilled technicians performing the intricate work. Cleanliness and organization within the working areas are crucial for precision machining, although the general aesthetic might be more industrial than a typical customer-facing auto repair bay. Being in a suite within a larger complex on N Nellis Blvd suggests a commercial or industrial park setting, which is common for such specialized businesses, making it accessible for drop-offs and pickups of engine components.
The services offered by Castillo's Machine Shop are highly specialized, focusing on the internal components of an engine. Based on customer reviews, these services include:
- Cylinder Head Planing: This involves machining the cylinder head surface to ensure it is perfectly flat, which is critical for a proper seal with the engine block and preventing leaks.
- Valve and Seat Rework: This service involves grinding or machining valve seats and valves to ensure a perfect seal, crucial for engine compression and performance.
- Engine Rebuilding: While the specifics are not extensively detailed, "full rebuild" mentioned by a customer suggests they undertake comprehensive overhauls of engine components, likely including cleaning, inspection, and replacement of worn parts.
- Machine Work: A general term indicating various precision machining tasks for automotive components, tailored to specific client needs. This can involve custom fabrication or modification of parts.
The features of Castillo's Machine Shop, as gleaned from customer feedback, present a mixed picture. On the positive side, one customer consistently relies on Castillo's, praising their ability to "always make time for my machine work" and highlighting a successful outcome where a Smart Fortwo's head was "planed and valves and seats reworked," resulting in the car running "better than ever." This suggests:
- Specialized Expertise: They possess the specific machinery and skills required for precise engine component work.
- Accessibility/Willingness to Accommodate: The phrase "always make time" indicates a customer-focused approach to scheduling.
- Positive Outcomes for Some Jobs: At least one customer experienced a highly satisfactory repair that improved their vehicle's performance.
- Missed Critical Steps in Rebuilds: A major complaint details that a crucial camshaft seal was not replaced during a "full rebuild" of a head, leading to oil spewing out and potential severe engine damage immediately after installation. This raises serious concerns about thoroughness and quality control.
- Extended Timelines: A promised "2 weeks" for a rebuild allegedly stretched to "1 month," indicating issues with project management and meeting deadlines.
- Lack of Communication/Honesty: The most damning feature is the alleged statement by the shop that failing to replace such a seal is "common practice," implying a lack of accountability and an attempt to normalize substandard work. This directly contradicts customer expectations of "100% thorough quality work."
- Cost vs. Value Discrepancy: The customer paid $300 for a rebuild, yet a critical "$3 seal" was not replaced, leading to potential catastrophic failure and further expense. This highlights a perceived lack of value for money and a failure to complete a job comprehensively.
- Potential for Damage to Other Components: The unaddressed issue could have "nearly blown the motor" and "damaged the same head I just paid for," indicating a risk to the customer's overall investment.
Regarding promotional information, there is no direct promotional material provided for Castillo's Machine Shop. However, the existing customer reviews function as critical promotional (and anti-promotional) elements:
- Word-of-Mouth (Positive): The first review, expressing consistent satisfaction and recommending them ("I always go to Castillo's"), serves as a powerful positive endorsement, indicating that they have built trust with some loyal customers. This type of organic promotion is invaluable in the automotive industry.
- Word-of-Mouth (Negative/Warning): The detailed negative review, with its strong language ("scamming your customers," "shafting you some way or another," "Do not go here !!!!!!!!"), acts as a severe warning to prospective clients. This effectively counters any positive promotion and creates a significant deterrent. The direct account of mechanical failure immediately after service and the alleged dismissive response from the shop is highly damaging.
- Reputation Management: The presence of such contrasting reviews means that Castillo's Machine Shop's reputation is heavily influenced by individual customer experiences, rather than direct advertising. Their ability to attract new business will depend on how potential customers weigh these conflicting reports.

I always go to Castillo's. They always make time for my machine work. Had a Smart Fortwo head planed and valves and seats reworked. Head looked like new and the car runs better than ever. Thanks Castillo's.

TLDR they didn't replace the cam seal on a full rebuild for my head (after taking twice as long as they promised to rebuild it) and oil spewed out of my car nearly blowing the motor when I started it. Easily could have damaged the same head I just paid for $300. And then I was told this is common practice in the shop when I brought this to their attention. Least you could do was put the seal back instead of just putting it together not saying a damn thing and scamming your customers. Rebuild took 1 month originally when I was promised 2 weeks, when I got the service done I was told all parts for the head would be rebuilt, seals where needed etc especially if removed. I did mention if the gear to the camshaft needed to be removed to place it back where the timing marks go to save me time and just have a plug and play situation. What I wasn't told about was they did not replace the camshaft seal when removing it, gave it back to me saying it was ready to install and put it back on as if they didn't touch it at all. Of course I start my car and oil is shooting all over the inside of my 87 civic smoking. And the guy tells me this is common practice, considering valve seals are supposed to be done in the rebuild it feels like common sense that they would replace what they take off or have the decency to say something considering my motor could have blown after I just put in a new head gasket. I was told the cam seal was to be "Done by the mechanic working on it" and "ordered with the set for the repairs" but I suppose that's anyones fault who picks a place like this that takes ages doing the work and only does it halfway and tells you this kind of "work" is common. Easily another automotive shop that fits well in shafting you some way or another. I'd say you get what you pay for but it ran me $300 and they couldn't source a $3 seal let alone replace it. But maybe I'm crazy for wanting 100% thorough quality work at least you know reading this you won't find that here.

Would not recommend. Tried to have this guy drill out some bolts on calipers. Goes through caliper instead somehow. Total ineptitude. I dont think he even has a drill press. I probably wont waste time with small claims court. Take your money elsewhere. Update: This dude also broke off extractor inside other bolts. The other machine shop i went to will be able to fix it, but laughed at this guys work. You've been warned, drive the extra distance and go to a better machine shop.

Don’t use this shop. Save your time and money because this guy takes both. It took him almost a month to do a simple valve job on a pair of Chevy heads and didn’t finish. I had to take them away to another shop to finish them. The other shop showed me the bad work he did. Basically lied to me. This guy is a joke he is busy working on his neighbor parts. He has no time for you. The worst of all, is the other shops of of his work. I didn’t have to mention who did the horrible work they knew. He knows who I am.
