Aloha Smog Introduce
Aloha Smog, situated at 2720 Artesia Blvd # B, Redondo Beach, CA 90278, USA, functions as a specialized **Auto Repair Station** focusing primarily on smog inspections for vehicles. In California, smog checks are a mandatory part of vehicle registration for most cars, and Aloha Smog provides this essential service to local residents. Their contact number is (310) 376-6455, also available via mobile at +1 310-376-6455.
As an **Auto Repair Station** with a specific focus, Aloha Smog operates as a "Test Only" station, meaning their primary business is to perform smog inspections without also offering repair services for vehicles that fail. This distinction is important because it theoretically removes any incentive to fail a vehicle in order to generate repair business. Their role is to objectively determine if a vehicle's emissions meet California's standards. This specialized service is crucial for vehicle owners in California to comply with state regulations and renew their vehicle registration. They aim to provide efficient and impartial testing.
Regarding the **environment** of Aloha Smog, the customer reviews present a mixed picture. One review describes a "cute little waiting room that's very nice and clean," suggesting a comfortable and well-maintained area for customers awaiting their smog test results. This aligns with expectations for a facility that aims for quick, in-and-out service. However, another review describes a "bad vibe," mentioning that "the office smells of smoke" and expressing concern about a "working attendant" possibly being "on drugs." This discrepancy suggests that the environment and atmosphere can vary, possibly depending on the time of visit or the specific staff present. Generally, a professional smog check station would strive for a clean, odor-free, and welcoming environment. The positive review mentioning "Sam" and a "nice and clean" waiting room indicates that, at times, the facility does meet these standards.
The core **services** offered by Aloha Smog are:
- **Smog Inspections/Smog Checks:** This is their primary service. They conduct the required emissions tests for vehicles to comply with California's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regulations for vehicle registration renewal, selling, or bringing a vehicle into the state.
- **STAR Station Services (Status Varies):** While one review mentions "very fair for a star station," public records indicate that Aloha Smog is currently "NOT CERTIFIED" as a STAR station. This is a crucial detail for customers whose vehicle registration renewal notice specifically requires a smog check at a STAR-certified station. STAR stations meet higher performance standards set by the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and are authorized to perform tests on specific vehicles, including those that are considered high polluters or are randomly selected for enhanced inspection. The conflicting information here suggests customers should verify their specific smog check requirements (regular vs. STAR) before visiting.
- **Quick Drive-Up Service:** The positive review highlights "open drive up times" and "Sam was very quick. The test took a few minutes," indicating an efficient process designed for convenience without requiring appointments.
- **Payment Options:** They accept both cash and card, offering flexibility for customers.
While the business focuses on smog checks, the mention of an attendant being unable to figure out a "hybrid" suggests potential limitations or inconsistent expertise with certain vehicle types, despite smog checks typically being a standardized process. This could be a point of concern for owners of less common or newer vehicle technologies.
The key **features** of Aloha Smog, as highlighted by customer experiences, include:
- **Speed and Efficiency:** Multiple customers praise the quickness of the service, often completing the test in just a few minutes. This is a major convenience for busy individuals.
- **Fair Pricing:** One customer found their prices "very fair for a star station," indicating a competitive pricing structure, even though their STAR certification status appears to be inconsistent.
- **Walk-in/Drive-up Availability:** The ability to drive up without an appointment offers significant flexibility for customers.
- **Customer Service (Inconsistent):** While one reviewer highlighted a positive interaction with "Sam" who was "very quick" and facilitated a smooth experience, another review details a highly negative experience with a "rude" attendant and a general "bad vibe," including concerns about the attendant's demeanor and the smell of smoke. This indicates a significant inconsistency in customer service quality.
- **Specific Location Guidance:** The note about entering "from 190th going east, no u turns at nearest cross street" is a practical feature, providing helpful navigation advice for first-time visitors.
Regarding **promotional information**, the provided reviews do not detail specific current promotions or discounts offered by Aloha Smog. However, it is common for smog check stations to offer various incentives to attract customers, especially in competitive markets. These might include:
- **Online Coupons/Discounts:** Many smog stations advertise coupons on their websites, local deal sites (like Groupon, as indicated by a search result), or through local flyers to lower the cost of a smog check.
- **Free Re-tests:** Some stations offer a free re-test within a certain timeframe if the vehicle initially fails, providing a safety net for customers.
- **Competitive Flat Rates:** Advertising a clear, competitive flat rate for the smog check itself is a common promotional strategy.
- **Convenience Factor:** Highlighting their quick service and drive-up availability acts as a strong draw for customers who value time.
Customers interested in potential promotions would need to contact Aloha Smog directly at (310) 376-6455 or check online sources for any current deals. It's also important for customers to verify if Aloha Smog meets the "STAR station" requirement for their specific vehicle, as this status is critical for some renewals. The facility's ability to provide a quick and reasonably priced smog check has been a positive for some, but the noted inconsistencies in customer service and the environmental concerns highlighted in one review should be considered by potential customers.

Im giving it 2 stars as a kindness… my husband and I have used this place for years, but the last couple of times. There is just such a bad vibe here. The office smells of smoke, I feel the working attendant may be on drugs… This last time I went I swore it would be my last and we needed to find a new place. Even though it’s usually short and painless… But the attendant came back and was like your car’s not working. I think because it is a hybrid he couldn’t figure it out. Anyway I asked for my paper back took the keys and headed down Inglewood to my new spot.

I called up to check prices (very fair for a star station) and availability. Sam had open drive up times. Great! You have to enter from 190th going east, no u turns at nearest cross street. So follow your map guidance to get here. Sam was very quick. The test took a few minutes. Takes cash or card. Cute little waiting room, that's very nice and clean. Great little smog station.

Overcharged me - $70 for a minivan smog check. When I pointed at their pricing on the office wall which said 59.95, he was rude and said he would not provide me with a $10 refund since my charge had already gone through.

Racists. Would not serve my father because he spoke “limited” English. I didn’t know English was required to perform a simple task as a smog check but these idiots evidently can’t seem to separate the two.
