A & S Rebuilding Introduce
For individuals and mechanics in Saint Paul, Minnesota, seeking specialized automotive solutions, A & S Rebuilding stands out as a unique establishment within the "Auto Repair Stations" platform category. Unlike conventional auto repair shops that offer a broad spectrum of services, A & S Rebuilding primarily focuses on the rebuilding of crucial electrical components: starters and alternators. Located at 1050 Arkwright St N, St Paul, MN 55130, USA, and reachable via phone at (651) 231-2907 or mobile at +1 651-231-2907, this business caters to a specific niche in the automotive repair market, often serving those with older vehicles or specialized needs where new parts are difficult or impossible to find.
---
Given its specialized nature and the focus on rebuilding rather than a general auto repair bay, the environment at A & S Rebuilding is likely to be a workshop-style setting. It would typically feature a workbench laden with various starter and alternator components, specialized tools for testing and disassembly, and an inventory of internal parts necessary for the rebuilding process, such as brushes, bearings, solenoids, and rectifiers. The atmosphere is generally expected to be practical and focused on the intricate work involved in electrical component repair. Customer interaction would likely take place at a counter or a dedicated reception area within the workshop. While specific details on customer amenities like waiting rooms are not available, the emphasis is on the technical expertise and the specialized service provided. The nature of the work suggests a functional and potentially somewhat industrial environment, typical of highly specialized repair shops.
---
A & S Rebuilding's core competency lies in the rebuilding of starters and alternators. This service is highly specialized and caters to a particular demand in the automotive industry. Rather than simply replacing a faulty unit with a new or remanufactured one, A & S Rebuilding takes the original component, disassembles it, inspects its internal parts, replaces worn or defective components, cleans and tests the remaining parts, and then reassembles the unit. The goal is to restore the starter or alternator to a functional, and often original, specification. This service is particularly valuable for:
Vintage or Classic Vehicles: For older cars, original equipment starters and alternators may no longer be manufactured or are extremely difficult to source. Rebuilding provides a way to keep these vehicles authentic and operational.
Specialized or Heavy-Duty Equipment: Some industrial or custom vehicles may have unique starter or alternator configurations that are not readily available as new off-the-shelf parts.
Cost-Effectiveness: In some cases, rebuilding can be a more economical alternative to purchasing a brand-new unit, especially if only a few internal components are faulty.
Quality Control: A reputable rebuilder meticulously tests each component during the process, often resulting in a highly reliable rebuilt unit.
It's important to note that this is distinct from simply selling auto parts; A & S Rebuilding provides a service where they work on the customer's existing faulty part. While they would logically stock an inventory of internal components required for rebuilding, their primary offering is the rebuilding labor itself. The provided customer reviews explicitly mention bringing in "faulty starter" and "alternator" for "rebuild" and "fixed," confirming this specialized service focus.

The customer experiences at A & S Rebuilding, as evidenced by the provided reviews, paint a mixed picture, which is not uncommon for highly specialized, small businesses. This duality highlights some key features of their operation:
Specialized Expertise: One review effusively praises the "Man" for being able to "fix" an alternator for a "limo" which was "4x bigger than what they currently make," indicating a profound level of expertise in handling uncommon or obsolete parts. This suggests a deep understanding of automotive electrical systems and the ability to work with components that other shops might deem irreparable or impossible to replace. This unique skill set is a major draw for customers with specific, challenging needs.
Problem-Solving for Unique Situations: The success story of the limo alternator underscores the store's capability to solve problems that might be "no problem to him," even when the customer feels "hopeless." This highlights a willingness to tackle difficult cases and a commitment to finding solutions where others cannot.
Potential for Inconsistency: Conversely, the first customer review details a highly frustrating experience with a starter rebuild. Issues included the unit failing twice after being "rebuilt," a perception that "little more than a fresh coat of paint had been applied," and a critical absence of service due to an unannounced vacation. This suggests that while expertise may exist, consistency in quality control, communication, and customer service can be areas of concern. The statement that the part was "black on the inside and not rebuilt" by another shop is a severe accusation regarding the quality of the rebuild.
Direct Customer Interaction: The reviews imply direct interaction with the individual performing the rebuild ("Mr. Fix-It," "This Man"), suggesting a small, potentially owner-operated business. This can lead to a very personalized service experience, for better or worse, depending on the individual's approach to customer care.
The contrast between these reviews illustrates that while A & S Rebuilding possesses invaluable specialized knowledge and the ability to perform complex rebuilds that save customers from otherwise impossible situations, there can be variability in the consistency of the delivered service and the customer communication. For customers with unique or vintage parts, the potential to have a seemingly unfixable component restored might outweigh the risks of a less-than-perfect initial attempt.
---
Specific promotional information, such as current deals or advertisements, for A & S Rebuilding is not readily available in the provided text or common public online searches. This is typical for highly specialized, smaller businesses that often rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals and their unique service offering rather than broad marketing campaigns. Given the nature of their service (rebuilding specific components), their customer base might be niche, consisting of individuals and other repair shops that require their particular expertise. Their primary form of "promotion" would likely be the successful completion of challenging rebuilds, leading to strong positive recommendations, as exemplified by the highly satisfied customer with the limo alternator. The very existence of a specialist in rebuilding older or unique starters and alternators is, in itself, a form of attraction for a particular segment of the market. Businesses like A & S Rebuilding often do not require extensive advertising because their unique capabilities fill a specific market void, and satisfied customers become their best advocates.

A & S Rebuilding Customer Reviews
I brought my faulty starter to A&S Rebuilding – let's call him “Mr. Fix-It” – for a rebuild. He assured me he could get the job done, quoted a price, and I paid it, trusting in his expertise. What followed, however, was far from the simple fix I expected. The first time I got the starter back, it failed to work. Thinking it might be a minor issue, I returned, explained the problem, and waited, again. To my dismay, the supposedly rebuilt starter failed for a second time. This is where the frustration really set in. Examining the unit more closely, it appeared as if little more than a fresh coat of paint had been applied. There was no indication that any actual internal repair or replacement had taken place. It certainly didn’t seem like a “rebuild,” and it certainly didn’t work. Making matters worse, Mr. Fix-It chose this point to take a several-week vacation, leaving me with a non-functional starter and no recourse. I was left stranded, out of pocket, and feeling completely disregarded. This isn't just about a faulty part; it's about a lack of professionalism, a lack of transparency, and a disregard for customer satisfaction.I brought it into a different shop and was told it was black on the inside and not rebuilt. I am Not happy.

This Man . He saved my life, my everything. My car died on me and I didn't have no way to find same part in the whole USA. I went to him hopeless but my problem was no problem to him. After a few hours he gave me my alternator and he didn't seem to have confidence in my judgement for him. He said he fixed it and all I could wish is I wish I knew how to do flips of joy. If I tried I would land head down. I went home and installed the same I had since mine was 4x bigger than what they currently make. I was able to have my limo running. I have been looking for him but today I find this Man whom I shall always respect as my elder brother from another mother. Blessed thanks n Happy blessed new year. Jah bless you always

Always great service. They have never let me down. They have stayed late to complete my part repair even after operating hours on the weekend. You can't beat the price or the service and you know your getting fully functioning parts when you leave.. Nothing but great experiences every time I've had the opportunity to conduct business here.
